"And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."
or
John 1:18
"No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."

Spent over thirty years studying theology, christianity in particular....wisdom my friend is recognizing the errancy of man...and not trying to reconcile the irreconcilable...

to the untaught mind of the reader it may appear that these verses conflict with each other. For this reason people should study the subject before taking a stand against it. DJ I thought did a good job of explaining this. I will go further in making another point. It is believed by many that whenever reference is made to seeing God in the flesh that it is actually Jesus, God in the flesh, that they have witnessed.
P.S.
you can put me down for keeping both and tossing out opinions formed from lack of knowledge of the subject. You may want to look up the facts and reasons for the Jacob story before you conclude what you think it means.
Edit: NEVER! it is not a question of smarter since you may be much smarter than I in other areas. It is a question of wisdom~knowing before forming
Edit: you can spend a thousand years studying but without the key componet they are just words on paper. No offensive intended but, if you spent over 30 years studying you should have known this answer since it is a common knowledge item

God is Father. Son and Holy Spirit. Clearly many have seen God face to face Jacob wrestled with the lord . Abraham spoke with God in three persons. Many talked and walked with Jesus, No man has seen the completeness of God.
Jesus said if you have seen the Son you have seen the Father, They are one God. God can come to this world in many forms no man has seen the completeness of God.
Glade I'm keeping the complete word of God as is.
John was aware of the books of Moses.
Glade It is not by a man's wisdom he knows God but by revelation of God.
1 Cor.1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

One is OT, one is NT. Why would I ever want to destroy God's Holy word.
He wrote it for you. You are curious or you wouldn't keep asking questions. Except Jesus into your heart.
