The Marlin 60 would be my next choice for a 22LR rifle. The price is right for anyone on a budget, or doesn't want to spend over $200 for a .22LR. The Marlin 60 is a tube feed .22, great if you don't like to pack around extra magazines. A scope can be mounted easliy, because the 60 has an intergrated scope mount. All you have to do is buy the scope and scope rings. Doesn't take long to install the scope either.
My cousin has a Marlin 60, his Girlfriend bought it for him for $145 dollars. He then mounted a Bushnell scope and sighted the thing in. He loves it.
If it were me.....I'd save the money for a Ruger 10/22. They are great guns, right out of the box. You can dress up the Ruger 10/22 to fit your style, with many after market products for the 10/22.
I have 2 Ruger 10/22s. I paid $190 for my first 10/22 and got the second in a trade deal. I was told, my buddy paid $250 for it. Each of then has the stock 10 round magazine. I also have 7 Eagle 30 round magazines and 2 Butler Creek 25 round magazines for the rifles. One has a Bushnell scope, while the other one has a BSA scope and a BSA Tactitcal 24-7 Lighting System (Laser Sight & Flashlight Combo) mounted on the scope. As for the stocks for my 10/22s,....One has the Birch stock and the other rifle is a fully camofluged with Realtree Camo. The one with the Birch stock, is one that I will customize. The camo one, I'll just use it to hunt rabbits and plinking.
You'll be making a good choice though, with the Marlin 60. Like I stated before.........It would be my second choice for a .22LR rifle.

I have owned numerous model 60's, and have even been lucky enough to own a model 39a.
Marlin model 60 are the best 22 semi auto rifle on the market now and for the last 30 years.
I have personally shot two of them so much that they would not function anymore. The one i have now, and the last one i broke, both had 4-12x40 Bushnell scopes and could(this is not a lie or exaggeration) shoot half inch groups at 50 yards and 1.5 inch groups at 150 yards. Sometimes I even go out to the 200 yard mark just for fun. My last rifle seemed to be a little more accurate than the new one.
At $134 for the blued and 189 for the stainless(scope included) at Walmart, they are more than affordable
They can go forever without a cleaning, they can cycle the low power ammo, and the mini mags without fail, and hold 16 rounds. Whats not to love about this gun?!
The only thing I don't like about the new one is they shortened the barrel about 3 inches.
Alot of people I know talk the 10/22 up alot, but for me they are just too short, as I have pretty long arms.
I have owned 5 model 60's and one models 39a, and I truly believe the Marlins to be the superior 22 on the market.

It's not "The most popular rifle in the world" for nothing.
I have several, and think you will find the 60 to be one of the most accurate semi-auto .22 rifles right out of the box. There are not a lot of accessories for it.....but really it's just fine as is. Unlike some .22s that you need to buy a replacement barrel for to even get it close to accurate, the Marlins actually come that way from the factory.
Some people don't like the tube style magazine. I was using that kind since I was a kid and like them. I can reload the tube a lot faster than the removable vertical magazines.
