You have really taken on a big project. Does research on Foundations who give to non profits, look at guidestar.org for help.

Talk to local business as big organization will not give to new non profits.

If your nonprofit organization is established, paperwork filed, etc., then you and your board of directors and volunteers need to sit down together and brainstorm potential donors. You should already have compiled a budget for operations, and noted how much money the board and other volunteers (including YOU) are willing to contribute to the org, and this should be fully detailed in any proposal you prepare for potential funders.

If you don't already have an established nonprofit organization with a board of directors, paperwork filed, a budget for the year, a strategic plan, etc., stop right now -- you've got a lot of work to do. You need to be able to justify the creation of this new organization (showing that there is NO other organization doing this activity), have a group of people ready to serve on the board and donate their own funds as start up, and have other established nonprofits ready to issue letters of endorsement to say, yes, this new organization is needed and we endorse its creation.

Otherwise... why not volunteer with an existing organization that would welcome your expertise and energy?

I really hate to tell you this but unless you have a really good purpose and plan in place, you are spinning your wheels.

Do yourself a favor and work on self improvement and then mentor or do labor for the community.

No one ever gets better by getting hand outs instead of a hand up.

Give them a fish and feed them for a day. Teach them to fish and feed them for a life time.

and 8 out of 10 times, yeah you do help some people but a good portion of the people you give services to are just taking and not trying on their end, therefore apply the fish story above.
