this should be ok but i kno that you will definatly have the indurance but the only problem it that your not used to sprinting a whole event
soo you will really have to work on your sprint speed and turn over....which is one advantage that the 400 will have over you until you work in that

The 400 is one of the most difficult races in track.
You should do some practice before running the 400.

Try running some 200 repeats with a short recovery time.

If you can run 6x200s at near top speed with a 2 minute rest you will begin to feel like you are going to feel during the race.

The 400 is a sprint and you need to run close to top speed for the entire race.

You will be okay, but everyone that runs the 400 thinks they are going to die.
Run relaxed and once you are at speed don't try to run faster, just maintain your form and turn over rate.

yer go for it you might enjoy it it is always good to try new stuff. and you might even be better then you are at long dictance.. you should have the enderance to do it but it ill be a test of your speed.

also it take a few time to get how to un a 400m most people go out at 90-100% of the first 100-150m then slow down like bit till about 150 when they then hit the home straight and give it all they have left.

if you dont do as well as you first thought you would dont worry as it is heard event.

good luck

What is long distance? Assuming it's more than a mile at a time, then you need to start with 10x100s at the track. You should run the straights hard, fast, all out, controlled, good form, then rest, jog, recover on the turns. Do this 2 days a week instead of your longer runs. Warmup and warmdown with half-mile jogs.

Good Luck
