I've heard that you can wash your hair with lotion to make it really soft. Is this true? What kind of lotion would be good for this purpose and how exactly would I use it?

You can put lotion in your hair. It's a conditioning thing. But no, you can't 'wash' it with lotion, but you must rinse it out completely. It's really more of a hassle than it's worth. I'd just condition my hair really well. Get JoiCo. That stuff works miracles. I'm not sure how pricey it is, because my mom has a salon, so I just get it, but you have to get it from salons. It's wonderful though. I was on Biolage for a good while, and this made me switch, right away.

I don't think that's true. You may be confusing the lotion thing with conditioner-only (or CO) washing. CO washes involve substituting shampoos, with their sulfate-based detergents, are replaced with light conditioners, because they contain fewer harsh detergents and can keep hair softer. Washing with lotion wouldn't work to keep hair clean, as it has no cleansing ingredients.

Magazines have said that it's possible to use hand lotion as a styling aid or as a quick frizz fix because of the emolients and oils in it. Personally, I've never tried either CO washing or using lotion in my hair, but chemically, to me, the ideas make sense.

Well no...there's no cleaning properties in lotion.

I've had to use lotion when I've run out of leave in conditioner for my ends a couple of times, and it works great, but don't make a habit of it. It can sometimes turn out very greasy if you overdo it. I used to use Jergens.
