Since it takes 8 years to become one....Does that mean that no one under 26 can become a priest? Is there a way to become one sooner?

I'm just asking out of curiousity....

Thanks =)

I think 25 or 26 is a pretty solid minimum. It's a serious commitment, what with celibacy and all. They don't want any washouts. Anyone in a bigger hurry is suspect.

No. That is about right.
It takes awhile as so much is expected of someone whose primary function is to give comfort and advice to people of all ages.

A late, rather than an early entry, into the priesthood ,also gives more time to know the consequences of the choice.
As Church laws stand now,
"Once a priest, always a priest."

New Jersey and Alabama have lower ages. But most places you can be a priest with your parents' consent at age 16, and after 17 you do not need parents' consent, but you have to pay the license fee yourself--usualy around $100, to prevent rash decisions.

you can be a priest as soon as you realize that God does not care how many buildings you build while there are homeless people who are not even allowed to live there.. and no, homeless shelters are not enough since you kick them out in the morning.
God would rather have HIS HOUSE be in HIS CONTROL not the popes nor the priest.
but I guess the pope pays so you gotta obey him before God.
why dont you try it,

hear about shane claiborne?

no set age, many become a priest at a late age, depends on ones calling really. for example, i have heard cases of people entering seminary in their 40s 50s. many come earlier than this but just to show the diversity for you. there is no fast track programme that i know of regarding the last part of your question.

amir... prove that he isn't.

I am not sure of the canonical restrictions on age but personally I would wait till I was in my 80s.
