My copy of Windows XP Pro says it's for "1-2 CPUs". I'm curious - does this mean it can't legally be installed on a Quad-core Intel Core 2 chip? Secondly, does this mean it *can* be installed on two single-core chips? It's not very clear.

I should clarify - by two single core chips, I mean, two separate PCs, each with 1 single core CPU.

This license means that you can install Windows on a single PC that has one or two physical CPUs. These can be two dual-core or two quad-core CPUs. It does NOT mean you can install it on two separate PCs.
