You sound like the Marines would not let you join their BELOVED CORPS. Get over it and get on with your life.

Can Prison mate take island and beaches, are they trained to run to the bullet fire ? A Marines job is deploy fast and be the last to leave, they don't have as much red tap as the other branches and chances are if theres a conflict the marines are probably already there. The reason Marines are one of the strongest, is because they are pretty much the 1st responders. And please really check your facts, "didn't really help out the us military at all in history." Go back to your search bar type in USMC history and see all they've done. The worst part of your question is a true Marine would say that he fought for the freedom for you to say that, and/or also wipe the floor with your face.

1) SEALS are a tier 2 Special Operations Force. Recon is not and has never been classified as Special Operations. They do NOT compare. 2) Seoul is in South Korea, and the Marines did not take it. 3) HALO/HAHO are ARMY schools. We have more positions for them than any other branch. Recon doesn't even go to Halo, they just get regular Airborne (also an Army school). Force Recon may get it, but regular Recon does not. 4) More confirmed kills is a non-sequiter. We don't count our enemy dead, so how exactly did you come up with that assertion? 5) Every branch held their posts during the TET. Hell even the AIR FORCE repelled the VC at Tan Sun Nhut. 6) The USAF assaulted Kuwait and the Army cleared it with the USMC at our heals. The USMC sent a single regiment into Somalia alongside the entire 10th Mountain Division. When the USMC failed in the mission to capture or kil Mohammed Farah Aidid, (and killed over 60 women an children), the mission was taken from them, they were sent home and Task Force Ranger took over. 7) The Army fought in Fallujah first, then handed it over to the USMC, and then had to go back in with the USMC after the contractors were killed. 8) Actually the Army 3rd Infantry Division (MECH) arrived first and took Baghdad. There was a single battalion of Marines with them that arrived late. The main force of Marines was in the south bogged down in places like Najaf. 9) The Marines have only taken 390 KIA in Afghanistan since 2001 (also where they arrived late), that averages out to about one death every 10 days. The Army has taken 1,168 KIA since 2001. That averages out to one death every 3 days. But I'm sure they aren't fighting anywhere but where the USMC is. (SARCASM). Marine Recon is a conventional fighting force with similar training to an Army 19D (like myself).

The use of the Marine Corps is vital to the continued success of the US Military. I am a retired B52 pilot from the Air Force in the Vietnam era. A lot of my friends were shot down in Vietnam. Some probably from the same gun emplacement that Hanoi Jane sat in. When an Air Force member was shot down we always hoped the Marines were the ones who were sent to get us. They would do anything for as long as it took to save us and get us home.
The Marines have two completely different sides. They are warm, wonderful people who care more about the lives around them then they do themselves. In time of war they are a fierce fighting machine. They loose the least percentage of members to battle compared to any other land troops. They always figure out the way to complete their mission. They are the best there is. I would not have wanted to serve as an officer in the Air Force without all my fellow services. The smallest one is the Coast Guard and they are just as important as the rest. Don't pick on the Marines or any other service. Especially when you are within striking distance of one.
Just remember my important quote of the day: "Tell it to the Marines."

As a former USMC and having 4 members of my family in the Marine Corps I have this to say. I think that it is sad that you do not respect all aspects of the United States military. I don't always agree with everything but I have the up most respect for anyone who puts there life on the line for there way of life and yours as well. That being said, The marine Corps is the first to fight and the last to leave I would hope that you remember that. We have no Dr. or Nurse. or Corpsmen. We rely on the navy because we are under the navy. The reason we have no medical is because EVERY Marine is a soldier first and will always put the welfare of the mission over anything Else. I would like for you to visit Paris Island or San Diego, Camp Pendleton. and see what these young men and women go through then call them week to there face. Its sad to say but you were more than likely picked on by a Marine and that is sad. I know that a lot of Marines think that they are better then everyone Else but If the rest of the world could go through what we go through willingly in Boot Camp the you would know why we think that way. I hope that If the wars ever comes over to US soil that you have a Marine willing to protect you. Peace and Love even if you don't want it!

Greetings. weakest branch? certainly if you are talking of materially. have less material allotted to them. less tanks, less choppers, less latest weapons, less everything. But the task they perform is based on rapid action, they are assault troops, like the German Waffen SS were during World War 2, or the Imperial Japanese Naval Marines were during the same time period. Way it is supposed to work is the Marines assault and drive the enemy troops back. Army moves in and occupys. Marines now are being enormously misused as Army occupation forces, which they are not trained to be by any stretch of the imagination. they are like attack dogs while the army is more like watch dogs. If you had to depend on the Army to do the job of the Marines then you could expect a huge increase in the number of troops killed as well as a much higher cost of the attack on all levels. As far as cost goes Marines are considered expendable, Army troops are not. So Army troops are not risked as often as Marines are. I would not consider this fake war we are in as a way to judge if the Marines are needed. They are being misused and used in ways that they are not trained for at all. Is more normal for war crimes to be committed by our Air Force, who love to bomb civilians rather then military targets, easier and safer. Pregnant women rarely have SAM's available to fight back with. Or Army, who have a heavy record of war crimes in any war we have been in. Check history. Marines are held to a higher standard and when one does commit a war crime it is made a big deal of. Note the news on such crimes. Marine committing one is news. Army committing hundreds is not. If we ever have to actually fight a real enemy and not a make believe one as we have now, then I would feel much safer having Marines doing the fighting. want to get rid of something useless get rid of our political system that demands a standing military, which is against the constitution. Leave the Marines though. We need them a lot more then the Pentagon dwellers or the White House creeps.

What history books did you read to form that opinion? Try looking up the battles Belleaue Wood, Gaudal Canal, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Okinawa, Hue City, Kahsan, Chosin Resovior, Inchon, Desert Storm, Fallujah, I could go on because the list of battles won by the Marines is quite long. You cant argue with results and the Marines get results every time they fight.

Heck no. I'm a Marine Officer Candidate. I sure wouldn't want to get rid of them. They are tough. You need to do some research. They have been in every battle since the Revolutionary War. Weak...haha...I can't believe you think that. Don't say that to the Marines, they will give you a taste of your own medicine.

The Marines only exist because of their history and their small unit focus for On Call Operations.
You get a lot of bang for your buck with the Marines.
Can the Army, Navy, and Air Force do Everything the Marines do...YES
Will we get rid of them...NO
Should we....NO
Don't get me wrong the Army is still the best but the Marines are good at what they do.
A little history for you the USMC is the only branch that has never used the draft to fill it's ranks.

You sir are VERY MIS-INFORMED!! I on the other hand, have had the honor of having MARINES at my side and I wouldn't have it any other way......Yes they are a dept. of the Navy but we will ALWAYS be a TEAM! I don't know if you got your information from a video game you played and couldn't win or someone with a bad taste in their mouth on Marines, I don't get it! But you couldn't be further from the truth on what value the MARINES hold in our history or within our armed forces. In closing let me just say "they are here to stay".
