Coca - Cola was invented in 1886, originally intended as a patent medicine thought to cure many diseases, including morphine addiction, dyspepsia, neurasthenia, headache, and impotence. It contained coca leaves from South America, which the drug cocaine is derived from
and was flavored using kola nuts, also acting as the beverage's source of caffeine.
In the 1980s, they changed the formula and sold the new product as Coke. But due to bad sales, they changed it back to Coca-Cola, minus the coca leaves.
Anyway, to answer your question, they either call it that because it used to contain cocaine or they just think the name sounds more catchy.

Most likely is because that's how the Coca-Cola Company spells it; the "Diet Coke" brand was introduced in 1982, and cans from 1985 (when they changed to the new formula) simply had "Coke" on them.

Didn't "coke" originally have cocaine in it? Maybe that could be why?... and not that this answers the question but I thought it was kind of interesting the when coca cola originally tried to translate the name to sound the same in asian countries, it translated back to english as "bite the wax tadpole"... just thought that was funny

if the short name was Coce people might mistakenly pronounce is with an s sound and if it was Coca people might think in has cocoa in it because it comes from the cacao bean - similar. Coke prevents confusion.

cuz coce or coca sounds wierd too me...like hey lets have a coca?..doesnt workd and if u shorten the first part of coca..too just coc..its sounds like coke and im assuming they didnt spell it like coc because thats a reference to cocaine

Coca sounds like cocoa which is chocolate and Coce sounds like the drug...Coke is catchy and easy to remember

Its not really. Coke and Coca Cola are two different companies, people just call them both Coke because they taste about the same.
