do crutches and situps and pushups and leg lifts and all that too?

cardio is the only fat burning exercise and burns fat all over your body - do it 4-6 times a week for average of 45min
crunches, sit ups etc. build muscle but they dont burn fat. you cant spot reduce body fat.

Cardio will not tone your tummy, but it will burn excess calories and the fat that tends to collect in the tummy area. Avoid sit ups, they are bad for your back. Crunches and leg lifts are good, but variety of exercise is important for the abdominal muscles. read the article at the link that I've provided below.

No, cardio burns fat around the tummy to make it seem more toned.

Crunches tone your tummy, though. :-)
