For the very same reason there is multi-religions in those places where the Bible is non-existent ! The apparent "contradictions" come from the way the Bible is both, read (comprehended) and spiritually deciphered. The Bible is written in such a way, that you can read a given passage and derive a different perspective on that passage, based on where one is in the faith (spiritual maturity). It requires the working of the Holy Spirit to decipher the Bible, as No scripture is written from a human's personal view point, only that of the Holy Spirit. (see: Second Book of Peter, chapter 1, verse 20, of the Bible). Granted; there are impostors out there - conning people for their money or on a power trip, by twisting the meaning of the scriptures (see: Second Book of Peter, Chapter 3; verse 16). One of the main thrusts for understanding Bible scripture is to attain to HOPE (Book of Romans, Chapter 15, verse 4). Overall; churches of various stripes, have members (both, converted and non-converted) , who either are growing in spiritual maturity or they are not. In the light of this, you will find many varying opinions concerning Bible scripture. In other words, the contradiction is in the people who misquote scripture - not in the Bible it self, per sec. The problem is found within the human element.

Depends on if you are taking in to account old or new testament scripture. Old testament doesn't allow the consumption of unclean fish and meat. Yet there is no mention of it in the New testament .
Catholics celebrate the birth of Jesus with Christmas, putting up Christmas trees and yet the bible says in Jeremiah 10:2-5 inclusive (I won't type it all but give you the general drift) not to learn the way of the heathen for the customs of the people are vain: for one who cuts a tree out of the forest and decks it with silver and gold and fasten it with nails and with hammers so that it will not move, to make it upright like the palm tree but speak not are so heathens but not to be afraid of them for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. This is in the Old testament but there is no mention of it in the New testament.
This it is my opinion is where the contradictions come from. The Old Testament says one thing and the New Testament says something different. Most people I have pointed out these things to have merely said that the bible is just a story book to which I reply "what do you base your religion on then?" They respond "The bible". Confusing? It is to me.
If you are going to be a Christian then do as the bible says, if not, then go play golf is my husbands veiw point.
The fact that a lot of people will take certain passages from the bible to serve their own ends and neglect other passages just infuriates me.

Like many of the other answers, the bible doesn't contradict itself. We all like what we like. Many times when we can't agree on HOW to worship the God we believe in outside of the major pillars of our faith, it's better to start another group who will worship with a like mind. this way the major tenants of the Crucifixion, death, Resurrection and Deity of Christ are held on to while some lesser views like how baptism fits into our lives can be debated about.

Actually having different denominations is healthy for the church as a whole. All orthodox Protestant churches agree on the essentials of faith but disagree on minor nonessential things and this does not have anything to do with contradictions. On essentials unity--on nonessentials liberty. It is a good thing.

Many have small differences but some are apostate.
The Great Apostasy:
Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons

People are certainly flawed. Further, people have varying abilities of perception. Also, people have different motivations when approaching the scriptures. Therefore, they reach different conclusions.
If you want an example, look at the interpretations of the 1st Amendment.

Because Martin Luther began reformation, which broke from the Catholic church. Making Lutherans. After the reformation it was no longer illegal to not be in the Catholic, ahich allowed for some religious freedom. But it is all a waste of time, just be a good person.

The greatest lie ever told was the Devil did'nt Exsist
The Greatness Lie Ever told was to conviced the World that Jesus The Christ don't exsist and did'nt Rise in 3 Days.
They want Control of your Spiritual Mind, they're trying to make you feel like you need them, as compared to what Father God in Heaven Said ask Him, Jesus prayed and talked to the Father then If you want to know ask Father God in Jesus Name for your Self.
