Hello there. I have inherited a Minolta X-700 35mm SLR from my father. The camera works great, but I really want to upgrade to a digital SLR. I have more than 6 lenses and I just need to know is there any way that I can use them on newer SLRs? If so, which ones and/or would I need an adapter? Any extra information is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The lenses I have are all manual focus. I hope this helps! (:

The 28-85 and the 70-210 still sell for a premium on Ebay. The 35-105 not so much, as the wide end really isn't on an APS-C sensor camera. The 100-300 was made in several versions, some good and some mediocre. All you would need is something that will give you wide angle on the Sony, assuming we aren't talking about the A900. On any other model, even the 28-85 will come out as almost a normal lens. The kit 18-70 is an option, although the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 or the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 would be a much better option. Even the Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5 is a much better lens than the 18-70.

You can buy an adapter to use the older Minolta MC/MD lenses on the Sony A100 and A700. Since you're used to manual focus you won't have a problem with that. Metering might be more of a problem though since you'll have to use "stop down" metering.

If you'd rather sell the X-700 and the lenses please send me a list of the lenses and what you think they are worth.

I agree with fhotoace, it all depends on what Minolta lens you are talking about. It's comparable to the Canon FD mount and newer EF-S mount.

If they will fit, then you're in luck. If they do not, then well, you have a bag full of lenses not worth much in today's market. The sentimental value would be worth keeping them, though.
