Anything you bring with you will be boxed and sent home. Your clothes, your bottle of booze, you're Playboy (actually, that'll probably be confiscated as contraband... so will the booze), you're girlfriend, everything goes home.

Some have alluded to being allowed to keep a small Bible... but you really don't have that much room and every square inch of that is rather full. Remember your parent's address. Remember your girl's address. Or, you can just leave a sheet of paper with all the addresses you want, and have your mom send it to you. You may not get mail for a week or so. There are a number of reasons for that, but you'll be so busy, you probably won't even think about it.

Army doesn't have bootcamp...it's basic training. and yes you can take an address book as long as it not electronic

You can, but you won't have a lot of time to write letters. Just jot down the ones you know you will write to on a piece of paper.
You will learn to "travel light.' Every ounce in weight you save, is that mich less to carry.

Yes you can, they encourage you to write. An address book, not a palm pilot or cellphone.

Yes you can, but try to make it small, dont try to lug in some huge encyclopedia for address.
