It appears some atheists think when you said "accept" it meant "embrace" and of course it doesn't. There are plenty of atheists on this forum who can be respectful of a wide range of beliefs, so we know...it can be done!
Guess it depends on the person.

The same reason why fundamentalist and extremists of all religions or lack thereof feel the need to badge and belittle. An extreme sense of 'rightness' is quite dangerous.
Some people become so obsessed thinking they are right and everyone else is wrong, that they lose sight of some of their core beliefs and priorities.
Theists who take the extremist path forget the principles of love and not judging others. Atheists forget the importance of freedom from forced beliefs and the pressure to conform in order to fit in and be accepted.
I honestly can't understand how an atheist who's left a religion which they consider controlling, dogmatic and manipulative can turn around and be so militant in their attitude toward others and their beliefs. It's hypocritical. Granted, not all atheists have been religious, so maybe they don't realise how it is to have beliefs force fed to them.
As a friend of mine here said, some people become so caught up in a cause, they lose their humanity.

I can't say I care whether they badger or not. As Christians our role is the Word and the Word of God, "the God who loves the atheists" and all His Creation says, every spirit that says Jesus Christ did not come in the flesh is not of God and this is the spirit of Anti-Christ. (1 John 4:3)
If you don't believe that up to you. But no true Christian is going to lose any sleep over Atheism. We have peace with God. We have a commandment from the Lord Jesus Christ to preach the Gospel. Now who are we going to listen to Atheists or the one who created Heaven and Earth? Its a no brainer.
The shame of it is, that many will not believe until it is too late which is the point for continuing to preach and witness to the lost. No matter how you feel about it God, He loves you and it is not his will for any to perish.
Nonetheless hell is enlarging itself to receive all who decide to follow Anti-Christ (Isaiah 5:14). God's desire is for ALL mankind to be saved. He does not desire for anyone to be eternally damned. that is why Christians do what we do. We love God and we know His heart is for you to be saved, to know Him.
As far as getting into personality types that has nothing to do with anything. Christians have faults like everyone else. But we have been where you are. You have never been where we are. We know what its like to be sinners. Most of us were pretty good at it I might add. We remember it. But what do you sincerely know about living as a Christian. Honestly nothing.
Jesus Christ was crucified on the Cross to save mankind from His sin before God, the same mankind was in agreement to crucify Him. It would be no different today. What kind of love is it that dies for a world that hates him? It still brings tears to my eyes because I was once one of those people.
He got my vote almost 30 years ago and I thank him every day. It is still the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me. Nothing compares, nothing.

Thats not really a fair or well thought out question, radicals, in any group of thinking, whether it be spirituality, politics, or sports, are going to badger and belittle their opponents (so to speak). People have forced religious beliefs on one another for ages, and continue to do it today, through everything form missionaries to badgering and belittling atheists. Atheism is as valid as any form of religion to those who believe it, and those who are belonging to some form of religion should not look down on atheists as weak-minded non believers, and atheists should not look similarly on those who believe, its life, people learn, live and make the choice you think is rite, but no matter what side you claim to, keep open eyes and open mind

Could ask you guys the same question. Thing is, since we're on the Internet people can do a lot of stuff without expecting the same (often unpleasant) consequences that you'd find in the real world.

As a pagan, I could ask the same question to a Christian! We are judged as devil worshipers because we do not believe what they believe. What gives us the right to judge anyone! Isn't that what Christians preach!

I will never, ever accept when people, of whom I care for and love them all, delude themselves with a belief system that instructs them not to think or live for themselves.
Religion rapes mankind and leaves him vulnerable, insecure and ignorant.
I hate, hate, hate the control it wields both politically and psychologically over people.
All of the religions are faith based, and therefore dangerous - people cling to them rabidly because they are afraid to die.
I was a born again and spirit filled Christian Apologist who discovered from my scholarly intense research from original sources that Jesus never existed and that the Bible manuscript tradition is rife with corruption.
There is no Heaven, no Hell, it does not matter what happens when you die and morality can be achieved more purely through reason alone, rather than ancient, arcane commandments from a God who created a reward/punishment scenario that is better suited to keep people as slaves than it is a heavenly paradise.
The Christian's Heaven is indeed, the free-man's Hell.

It's quite the opposite. Most atheists don't care if people want to believe in the Bible's God, in ancient alien civilizations or Quetzalcoatl, the flying feathered serpent.
We DO care when religious people IMPOSE their belief system on the rest of the population ("In God We Trust", "One Nation Under God", Creationism, swear under oath with a Bible... the list goes on).

We do. We really couldn't care less what anyone wants to believe.---if you wish to believe the moon is made of green cheese, it's fine with us... But what we won't let you do is display it on PUBLIC buildings, and put it in PUBLIC schools, and make us pay taxes for your religion(s). We don't think those things belong in PUBLIC places.... UNLESS every and all religions can do that all at the same time and all at public expense, and favoring none. Fair is fair. This country was based not only of freedom OF religion, but freedom FROM religion... get it???

I accept everyone for who they are, and I would like it if religious people would show the same kindness. I don't think any less of a person for choosing to devote their life to a religion, I actually respect there commitment, and I don't try to change them either.
