If you want your PC and PS3 to be hooked to a same access point:
1). Plug your modem into the router WAN plug;
2). If you want wi-fi, than your desktop must be equipped with wi-fi card, most of modern notebooks have a buit-in wi-fi. PS has wi-fi (except 20GB version);
3). Follow the instructions to the rouer and establish connection between router and PC, PS3 and a router (Network Settings -> New Connection -> follow instructions);
4). If you want a wired connection (faster, more reliable, I have a wired one), than buy a wired router, plug your modem into WAN, plug your PS3 and PC into other plugs, follow the instructions.

You can connect your PS3 and PSP to the same wireless router. I have my PS3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS all connected to the same router, and I can surf the internet just fine with my PS3..

To me it was just easier to get a wireless router,and you don't need to do anything with that just change the settings on your PS3 to wireless (with a router) or wired (with an EtheFPRIVATE "TYPE=PICT;ALT=waldo6877's o that just
