I have to work in an air conditioned place and I've had a problem that other's don't seem to have. That is, when I walk around the building, in about 30 minutes my eyes are becoming irritated, and I often have to close them or use eye drops so they won't feel so dry. I thought of going to the doctor, but is there really a permanent solution he/she could offer, besides, maybe, surgery, which I am unwilling to do? Or is there simply any advice someone could give me?
Thanks for the help.

You probably have dry eye. I've had that for some time. See an ophthalmologist to make sure you have no other problem. I use eye drops twice a day and that works pretty good. Mine are a little more expensive because I use the preservative-free in the Winter (when I need more) or driving (when the a/c from the car dries my eyes). Basically, when I need to use them very frequently. Otherwise, I have other OTC drops.

The surgery is really only recommended if your eyes are so dry that there is concern about damage.

For people that are in windy areas, there are special goggle type glasses that help to prevent the eyes from drying. Not sure if they apply to your situation.

Find out if there is another condition causing this. ( Sjorgens etc,) If it is just your environment then you can get a more permanent solution with the little soft rubber plugs that are inserted in the lower tear duct of both eyes. So soft you do not know they are there. It keeps what moisture your eye has from drainig out. A doctor has to insert them though. Good luck.

Go to an Opthalmic surgoen, he will check out your tear ducts and if required perform a very minor surgery that takes only a few seconds.

Good luck.
