Do you mean largest calibre or most punch behind the rounds? Either way I think it would be that new .500 S&W revolver.

There is an outfit in Germany that makes a four shot .600 Nitro Express revolver, so I believe they've sewed up the "Most Powerful Handgun" title for the foreseeable future.

If you are not an experienced handgunner, the .500 S&W will probably be more handgun than you can enjoy.

I, like many another more experienced gun crank, consider the .44 RemMag to be the upper limit that most average handgunners can comfortably handle. I've been shooting big bore handguns for over 30 years, and one session with a .475 Linebaugh convinced me that a .44 RemMag or a .454 Casull was my own upper limit. If you are new to big bore sixguns, I suggest you start with a .41 Magnum, a .44 RemMag, a .45 LC, or a .454 Casull and get some experience before you jump onto a .500 S&W. If you don't have any handgun experience at all, you need to start with a .22 LR revolver and learn the basics of gun handling, trigger control, sight picture, and breath control before you jump into big bore handguns. I've never known a good shot who did not start with a .22.

Truth is, if you can't kill something with a .44 RemMag revolver, you should have used a big rifle in the first place.

I don't like the feel of the Ruger Redhawk. It just does not feel right in my hand. But if you like the feel, go for it. I prefer a Super Blackhawk single-action, or the Super Redhawk double-action.

If you're talking about the traditional handgun, the .500 S&W is the king of the hill for now.

The Ruger Redhawk is pretty good in .44 Mag. Most people I've talked to love their Rugers.

Now, when it comes to the most powerful, the absolute top dog, nothing can beat the .50 BMG pistol.

That I'm aware of, the HOWDAH pistol is the most power-full followed by the .500 S&W. The Ruger redhawk has been my choice for hunting large game for well over twenty years and will shoot loads that'll turn a S&W .44 into a useless pile of junk {and NO I won't tell you what those loads are} but the S&W will probly handle anything built to SAAMI specs. But the recoil is vicious. If you find the Redhawk a bit much have it Magnaported, you'll never be sorry for that. A good qualty set of grips do wonders for soaking up recoil also.

S&W .500 Magmun is the most powerful handgun, the .44 Magmun was the most powerful handgun for many years. The Ruger redhawk is an excellent weapon and is built like a tank.

Anyone who answers "desert eagle" has no idea what they are talking about.

S&W 500 is currently the most powerful production hahndgun. However a .44 mag is force to be recond with.

I'd be very happy with a ruger redhawk .44 magnum.. excelltent handgun

YES & YES, however both are uncomfortable to shoot and ammo is very expensive.* You are better off with a 357 Magnum because you can also shoot 38 caliber ammo in the 357 Magnum.* You get two (2)* handguns for the price of one (1)*.. It is a real man stopper, and can be used for hunting Whitetail Deer.* Four (4)* or Six (6)* inch barrel is preferred.* For Hunting or Target and self- defense.* Comfortable to shoot.*

Smith and Wesson 460 is the baddest gun I have ever shot. MV of 2300 FPS!

.44 Magnum is still a pretty big gun. Personally I like an eight shot .357 over a six shot .44

Ruger makes a great revolver. Smith and Wesson is also a top notch choice. Avoid Taurus if you can afford a better gun.

The one I just used on the toilet after eating last nights chili...much more powerful than that lamo .600 Nitro being discussed. Far more collateral damage.
