Being that it is clearly an issue that EVERYONE can agree is horrible and needs to be stopped/ended, how in the world is not every single person, liberal, conservative, Christian/Jew, athiest, man, woman, etc doing everything possible to stop it!?!

I cannot think of any problem more pressing, nor tangibly changeable.

According to the United Nations, there are more slaves in the U.S. today than there were in 1859. Many in Canada too.

A lot in Saudi Arabia, and in all "civilized" countries.

As to why we don't hear more about it. Slaves don't control the media, slave owners and others who profit from it do to a certain degree.

Because mostly it exists in under developed countries where new does not spread easily.

Then too, while what we believe to be basic human rights are accepted by most of the western world, there are other ideas and cultures that do not agree.

To Mr. Jones

Here is wisdom You used Africans selling other blacks to justify slavery. Even if all Africans sold every single black person into slavery makes them just as liable as the buyers. Both parties involved knew better. Never compare what happen during "Slavery" to what happen in the "Slave Trade" those are two different things.

The natives of Africa had/have no control over what happen in the Americas. Proof according to the slave narrative by Olaudah Equiano he states:

"They gave me to understand we were to be carried to these white people's country to work for them. I then was a little revived, and thought if it were no worse than working, my situation was not so desperate. But still I feared that I should be put to death, the white people looked and acted in so savage a manner. I have never seen among my people such instances of brutal cruelty"

Olaudah and other blacks thought they were just going to work for them as they did in Africa. It is estimated that well over one 50 million "blacks" (men, women and children) died during the middle passage, (the three week to three month voyage to the Western Hemisphere). When those that survived the middle passage arrived in the America's they were DEHUMANIZED, MURDERED, LYNCHED, MUTILATED, BURNED ALIVE, AND TORTURED . All of this continued to happen well after slavery was over.

The Africans were Healthy and had a pretty good life in Africa.

Olaudah aslo said "....that if ten thousand worlds had been my own, I would have freely parted with them all to have exchanged my condition with that of the meanest slave of my own country...."

He was comparing life in Africa to life in the possession of whites. Which proves slavery is wrong but there possessor where the ones doing the oppression.

I wonered the same thing today. I was watching the 700 Club and they had a boy about 16 that spoke out against slavery and even wrote a book about it. I wish I could remember the title. I guess it should be brought up more often so that we don't forget about those that are suffering in this.

Slavery is still here. All those christians are slaves to a non existent deity. They love it. So I wouldn't say it is actually gone. You hear about it all the time. All those bible thumping crazies are out there trying to get everyone into their slavery cults. Amazingly, the new slave movement makes you pay for the luxury of it.

Sexual slavery is alive and well. Unfortunately, the news reposts on Jamie Lynn Spears and other stupid stuff:

why dont we hear about the african men who traded their fellow men into slavery? Doesnt that make them as bad as the white man? And to this day they refused to apologise for it.
