I found a can of paint that seems perfectly good except it has no label at all. The lid is rusty, but the inside is clean. It doesn't smell any stronger than indoor paint.

How can I tell if it's interior or exterior? I want to paint my living room, but I know from reading the other posts that it's not a good idea to use exterior paint.

Thanks.

It could me cealing paint or furniture paint. Or it could be ordainary wall paint. Paint isnt that expensive if you like the colour and taht why your using it just take it to Lowes and match it and get you new wall paint. It could be from the 70's and have lead in it?

I disagree with "Best Answer" Paint IS VERY Expensive. It is certainly one option, to "always buy something new." BUT using something up without sending it to the dump has financial value and environmental value. I don't know how to tell interior from exterior. Maybe someone else does. --- However for the Geeks and Nerds I imagine one could WEIGH the paint and compare it to other paint weights. As I understand it, EXTERIOR paint has a lot more chemicals in it than INTERIOR paint. To complicate it a little more, FLAT paint weights less than EGGSHELL. So grab your beaker and test tube and ... Alright, I would also like to know how to tell Interior from Exterior. Thanks
