I've owned Borzoi for 17 years.
They do shed but they get it over with in a week or so twice a year. As glamour breeds go, they are far easier to maintain than an Afghan or standard poodle as they can be thoroughly groomed in about an hour a week when in full coat (takes a bit longer when they moult.).
They can be huge but my current one is a minimum sized ***** and she doesn't seem large at all to me. They weigh around the same as a golden retriever and can curl up in an armchair but can also take up all of a three seater sofa if the mood takes them.
They are devoted to their person but will extend their friendship circle to people who have been properly introduced.
Mine have all adored children & I have cats but I wouldn't trust them with strange cats.
They do need somewhere to run. It doesn't need to be huge but secure fencing is essential as a Borzoi is out of earshot so quickly.
Why not contact the breed club & visit a breeder in your area.
Read as much as you can but it won't match up to meeting the actual hounds.
Borzois do come into rescue or up for rehoming so you may find an adult that matches up to your lifestyle.

Borzoi are gentle with people and other dogs, low key and laid back, with a bit of a clown thrown in.
They are also Sight Hounds, dogs that hunt by sight, they can and do run 35 or 40 mph, they will chase and kill cats, bunnies, and I have even seen them snatch birds out of the air.
They need lots of exersize, especially some room to flat out run. Their coats are silky and require regular brushing.
Sight Hounds are not for everyone! They can be VERY independant, stubborn and aloof. If a Sight Hound loves you, you earned it in his eyes. They will NOT fetch anything for you, they can and do get in to refrigeraters, kitchen cabinets and most anything else they think might be interesting.
They can open gates and doors, and get goodies out of a ziplock baggie without tearing it. They are INCREDIBLE
creatures. But, if you want a dog that you can tell what to do 24-7 you don't want a sight hound! They are more catlike than any other group of dogs.
My husband says I'm weird because my dogs act like cats and my cats act like dogs!
Here is a website where you can see lots of Borzoi, after you get to the welcome page be sure to look at the link called The Tail End. www.borzoibeacon.com

I knew a borzoi breeder. They are gentle and stubborn. The ones I met were pretty boring. They don't do much. They are super fast being a sight hound and all. They are very laid back well all the ones I have met. They are very independent. I use to want one when I was younger I thought they were so beautiful.
They are #5 on the list of not so obedient dog breeds

They are a hunting breed and you have to make sure they cannot get out as they will hunt down your neighbors rabbits, ducks, etc. I know... my neighbor replaced my ducks and geese once, but I didn't have the heart to tell her that her dog came back and killed all the new ones she'd bought me.
So... they have a STRONG prey drive. That much I know well about the breed.

My boss (a vet) has one. They are very sweet and quiet. Needs to run and exercise a lot. Very large dogs! A local breeder comes in regularly. All dogs very good tempered. Long haired that sheds.
