Because we are purchased with a price. God tells us to be Holy because God is Holy.
Holy is to die to the lust of the flesh (not reacting by cussing, yelling, etc.) but to make the soul choice to follow after the Spirit (faith, hope, love, joy, peace, patience, honesty, truth, etc...) The Holy Spirit won't force us to. We have to choose to follow after the Spirit.
Being Holy is being sealed with the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption. To be Gods child.
And it is written to also pray in the Spirit, building up your most Holy faith. So? Our faith in God is Holy. And when we pray in Spirit &Truth, this is Holy prayer.
Holy is to be washed in His blood. It is Christ who makes us the righteousness of Christ. It is what Jesus did. Holy & Saint mean the same thing. So? When one considers the Saints who have been martyred for their faith. And the ones who are martyred today for their faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God. They are holy.
Holy is set apart & cleansed from sin. To live a life to trust & obey Jesus & to follow after the Spirit. To renew ones mind in Gods Word & renewed in Gods Spirit.

Only God is holy. We can use Jesus as our role model for our actions and behaviour, but at our very best, we will never be holy.
Galatians 5:22-23 tells us, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control..." The fruit of the Holy Spirit are the results of the Holy Spirit taking a role in the life of a Christian. The Bible makes it clear that everyone receives the Holy Spirit the moment he or she believes in Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:13-14). One of the primary purposes of the Holy Spirit coming into a Christian's life is to change that life. It is the Holy Spirit's job to conform us to the image of Christ, making us more like Him.

hi. I dont believe it is about being sinless. God knows we, in our flesh, are incapable of that. That's why when we repent, God forgives past, present, and future sin. This, by no means gives you the ok to sin, knowing all is forgiven. God knows your heart.
My walk with the Lord, is mmmm, clumsy. If it wasnt for the Holy Spirit's conviction (and i am convicted on a daily basis)
my walk would not be Holy.
When you say "i do" to Jesus Christ, you become a new creature, a new person; And the Holy Spirit's job is too lead, reveal, convict and so on.
Now that we are saved, and cleansed by the blood of our Lord. We are now ambassadors of Christ, we represent Him now. We are to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh.
We are a light, a beacon to others who do not have Jesus in their heart. Therefore, we are to shine, so others will want what we have.
I must admit, I dont shine as much as i should. But, that is what is so awesome about God, He is not a covenant breaker. He has always been faithfull, even when i am not.
His agape love for us is truly amazing.
Thats why it is important for us to put on the armor of Holiness, that is to read and meditate on God's word daily.
This allows us to "hear" so to speak, the Holy Spirit. You know what i am talking about, if your saved, you feel the Spirit grieve when you sin.
You repent and ask God to renew in you a new heart.
It is a daily battle and will always be. That's why Paul wanted to be with the Lord, sooner than He did. But for the sake of the people back then and for us, He did God's will.
Each morning, you pray up, spend time with God. And your walk with Christ will be Holy, not of what you do, but because of the work Christ has done in you.....
Remember, you may not be where you should be, but if you are a new creature in Christ, you are diffently not where you use to be.
Hope this helped.
God Bless

Christians: What does it mean to be holy in your walk with the Lord?
Answer: Living without sin and daily asking the Lord to forgive our sin and where we fail the Lord in our lives. Holy =without sin which only comes when we are lead by the Holy Ghost and empowered by God and encouraged by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
What does the Holy Spirit lead you to do & say, to be holy?
Answer: No sin & speak no evil(sin). Amen
1 Peter 3:15-17 (King James Version)
15But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
16Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
17For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

This is where many struggle in the faith today and have struggled for generations.
A newborn believer, if he enters a fellowship of believers who stand on God's Word, will begin being fed the Word of God. And as this newborn grows, the Holy Spirit grows within him through his faith in Christ.
The new believer eventually matures to the point he can discern the difference between matters of the flesh and matters of the spirit.
For believers strive to move from that which is flesh, corruptible, to that which is spiritual, eternal.
So the believer learns how to walk, talk, do all things through the spirit.
This comes by way of being less of oneself and more Christ.
The image of a believer in a mirror is blurry, unclear when he first believes. It resembles the man, but is muffled, unclear because it has been changed.
And as the man allows Christ to grow in him by faith, the more the image in the mirror become Christlike.
The emptier my cup of self-will becomes, the more Christ fills it.

Holiness is most often associated with being good and pure, but really being Holy is a decision to be set apart for the purposes of God...If we are living a holy life however,we will be speaking and acting righteously(doing the right thing,in accordance with the will of God)...

To live with Godly integrity even when no one can see us. To be in control of our flesh in every way. To live above reproach from other peoples eyes. Stay pure to what they may consider not to be a "good Christian" (biblical truth). To have a healthy prayer life and spend devoted time in the Word. To serve others in our life and not just on our own immediate needs. To share the great gift to others that are willing to listen to the great news of our Lord and forgiveness.
To know God and who He is not who we want to make Him out to be.

Much of the time is has to do with reminding me what the Bible says that apply to situations I am in at the moment. Since we have free will, it is our decision to listen or not. It takes being mindful, not getting to out of whack with stress or lack of sleep and actually making the effort. Do I fail, heck yes, I am human, but I do ask for forgiveness and try to do better the next opportunity.

First, to not sin. Then to act as God would have us to, rather than react with our flesh (this one I struggle with, even in an earlier question I asked, I was reacting to accusing e-mails, rather then acting in God's love). And mostly to love. That is one we all forget at times, the scripture says that the world will know we are His disciples by our love for one another.
