My niece is in high school and she was talking with me this week saying that the Earth is just one of many planets and wasn't the first planet ever created. I showed her in the Bible where the Earth was around before even light was created on day one even though it was void and formless but she doesn't believe in the creation in Genesis. Any website I can give her that will prove this by science? Thanks!

I want her to know that Earth is the primary planet in the Universe because it was the first planet created and how special we are, you know?

oh...nevermind..i see now that only the stars were created on day 4 but doesn't say anything about planets so I guess it might not be the first planet but atleast the earth was created before any stars :)

Your niece is correct. You could learn from her.

Earth is OUR primary planet because we reside here, but the universe is vast and our galaxy is but a small, insignificant corner. Ask her about the star Alpha Centuri.

She sounds like a bright young lady.

Good sites are physics.org or nasa.gov (science)

Addendum: while studying theology at a conservative Baptist College, my instructor, a doctor of divinity, said "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" then slammed his Bible shut. He went on to say we're still exploring the details and that it's dishonest to think Earth was created first.

I hope you are not serious.

Planets are common in the universe. The heavier elements that make up our planet and even our bodies were formed in the heart of a star that existed before we did.

"We are star stuff" - Carl Sagan.

One exo-planet has been found that is over 12 billion years old, far older than earth's 4.5 billion. But age does not make something special.

If you want to tell her that the earth is special, you need do nothing more than look outside of your window. Earth is special because it has life on it, and we don't know of any other place that does. Even if there is life elsewhere in the universe, the fascinating thing about evolution is that it has billions of permutations and no fixed point -- humans didn't have to exist at all. Even if you find intelligent life elsewhere, it will be nothing like Earth.

Savor what you have. This planet is very special. If you want to show your niece this in a scientific way, get pictures of the Earth and compare it to a dead world, such as Mars. We are small, we are rare and insignificant, but we are also precious beyond reasoning. There are fewer things more beautiful than a living world:

Why would you want to mess up your niece on both science and theology? Not only is your understanding of Genesis unscientific, it is also wrong from a theological standpoint. Even if you read the thing literally, the first two verses explain that the earth and the sky were not initially separate, but were one formless mass. The earth wasn't created until the sky was created.

We are special regardless of the order in which God created the universe.
He came down to us and became Man to save us. THAT makes us special.

It says he knows us BEFORE we are formed in our mother's womb.. THAT by gosh should make us special!

Maybe he DID create other planets and other races on those planets... does it change our salvation any?

If Earth was created at the end of creation... we are still special because he waited 'til the end.

If Earth was created in the middle of creation... we are still special because he had to prepare a place for us in the universe BEFORE setting us in motion... so we're still special

So order has nothing to do with it.

A) He knows us before we are formed in our mother's womb AND
B) He came down from heaven to give us salvation

Pick your battles carefully.
Your neice MAY be right.

Sorri, but the earth formed like the other planets, and most likely was not the 'first' to be created. We are just the third rock from the sun.

I am Catholic, but I will not be teaching my niece about science from the bible now.

The bible never said that Earth was the "first" planet to be created. God was simply speaking about earth at the time. How do you know he didn't create planets before and after.

Why corrupt her? Let her learn things her way, so she can be an independent, free thinking person - maybe she will be the great scientist who discovers the cure for cancer! Or would have been before you corrupter her....

GOD has thrown out of heaven ADAM and eves on this earth for the one mistake done by them, since then we are here.

There will be no website to prove that by science. They think the big bang made it all appear. Which would mean it was made at the same time all other heavenly objects were made.
