I got one of those crazy airline deals to fly somewhere out of the country for $9.00 USD one way. So I felt just for kicks, I would get a ticket. I figured $18 and then pay for a hotel there. Why not, right?

Well, during the checkout procedure on the airline's website, $18.00 + $89.70 Taxes and fees make it come up to $107.70. OMFG, what the heck is this???????

I was throwing the idea around to go to Nicaragua. I don't speak the language nor do I leave the country often. Now i don't even want to go. Look at these fees!

Passenger Facility Charge $4.50
Security Tax $2.50
Federal Inspection Fee $5.00
US Immigration Fee $7.00
International Departure Fee $30.20
International Fee $40.50

Has anyone else had this same sticker shock!!! I thought our tax dollars went to the TSA and Homeland Security? I have no problem paying a couple of bucks but when airline discounts a fare, the fees should be a percentage, like a tax, not a flat fee. This is robbery!

here is the reality of airport "fees" and taxes:

The thieving politicians have, for years, been raising these revenues to pay for their mistresses plastic surgery and bridges to nowhere in Alaska, while the FAA air traffic control system is 20-25 years out of date. Very little of the taxes go back to airports or the FAA. Who to blame? Congress.

Now they want to biuld a fence between Mexico and the USA.
This fence will cost billions of dollars and what will it do?

It will make the good old US of A the same as North Korea, East Germany. USSR, or any other dictatorship that uses fences to keep people in or out.

Of course it wont stop much, except poor Juan who wants to feed his family.

OK, enough of my rant. Happy Holidays.

That's still crazy cheap. What site was it??

Since you don't leave the country often, you probably don't realize (or remember) there are always taxes like that. No matter where you go, you will pay them and there is no way around it. It's still a great deal though and you should be psyched about your trip. I'm jealous and I hope you have an AMAZING TIME!!

Spirit Airlines, huh?

Well, I guess it costs the government the same to handle each passenger, regardless of whether s/he paid $9 or $9000....so they levy flat fees.

$107 to Nicaragua is still a super deal!

i fly international a few times a year so i know to always add $100 to the shown price since air fares are always given before airport taxes. yours is still a great deal it means your flight is virtually free. you should be happy. enjoy nicaragua! but be cautious, not the safest place on earth.
