There have been some posts here recently regarding the legality of sharing bedrooms. Is there any page that specifically states the "law" and its implications? There isn't a law here in the US, but I have heard there is one in the UK. I think kids (same or mixed sex) can share a room at any age, granted it would be more difficult as the kids get older. I shared a small (110 sq ft) room with my sister until I was 8, she was 10. It was just what we could afford at the time. What do you think about this?

That's why I'm saying that there is NO law about it in the States. I don't know if there is one anywhere else, I HIGHLY doubt it. I shared until I was 8 and my sister was 10 and there were no issues.

In Michigan boys and girls can't share the same room past the age of 5. Here is a link to the state's laws on fostering kids, the same rules apply to ALL house hold's with in the state. Scroll down to page 6 rule (7).

it is also state law that no renter shall rent out a houseing unit of any kind to a family that has more members then suitable rooms. it still happens but if a nark calls it in the family will have to move into a unit that suites their size and the person that rented to them will more then likely get fined or loose their licence. I have seen it happen too many times. Kinda screwed for people that have no choice in the matter.

There is no way that there could be - it would be discriminatory for one thing. What if a family can't afford a larger house? Then they have no choice at all but to have kids share a room. My husband and I live in a small 2 bedroom house and we have a 2 year old daughter with another baby due in March. Regardless of what the sex of the baby is, our children will have to share a room. Moving is not an option for us at all, as there is no way that we could ever afford a larger mortgage as my husband's career field (maintenance) doesn't pay a whole lot and neither does mine (nursing). That's totally bogus - there's no way that they can expect people to abide by that unless the government starts paying for houses with a bedroom for each person, which even if they did we would never take advantage of because, well frankly, I don't belive in using government assitance at all. And that's my humble opinion.

I shared a bedroom with my two older brothers till I was 13, and they were 16.. Although I slept in the living room more often then not. I don't think there is anything wrong with kids of different sexes sharing a room, up to a certain point of age.

Actually there are some laws in the states about sharing bedrooms, and how many rooms are required in a house. I know in the Florida the rule is two heartbeats per room. If a child is under the age of two you can get away with a one bedroom house, but once they are two you have to provide them a bedroom. Also if you are a parent whose children visit on the weekends, you have to have a certain number of bedrooms depending on the childs sex and age.My sister actually was able to file a report againist her exhusband because he didn't have a bedroom for his daughters when they visited him on the weekend. My husband is in the military and they have pretty strict rules about ages/sex sharing rooms too. Once a child reaches the age of 6 they can't share a room with a child of another sex. And before I get jumped on, I am not saying that I agree or disagree with any of the rules, I just know that there are these rules.

Yes there are laws in the US on sharing bedrooms. After a certain age, like 8 or so, only same sex children can share a bedroom.

Sharing of rooms by siblings tends to be dictated by economics, more than anything else.
Poorer families may not have the extra rooms for each kid to be in one of his/her own, where wealthier families are more likely to have the a room for each kid.
One of my good friend's family had 3 boys and 8 girls. The upstairs had two rooms with a bathroom in between. Girls in one room, boys in the other all shared the bathroom. The oldest child had a room to themselves downstairs and the parents had their own room. Families make do with what they have.
In general, same sex kids in same rooms past 8 to 10 years of age, IMO.

The bed rooms are usually shared by the children living in the same house or of same family. The guests can also share bed rooms. i do not think there is any legal requirement in such type of sharing bed rooms. The only criteria is about having space. I feel sharing bed rooms or any thing in life increases intimacy. But if there is no constraints of having enough space The children of same or mixed sex should not share bedroom as in the process of growing and exploring sex they are liable to go in the zones of incest, which I think is not good for their overall development.

there are laws in the united states about shared bedrooms especially with foster kids.
I think it is to discourage incest and other sexual behavior.

According to social services they prefer that the girls stay with the girls and the boys stay with the boys. I have no idea whether or not it's actually a law.
