Okay, so I love music. Like really, I love it. I can practice my trumpet for upwards of 5 hours, WITH school work and the like. Nobody tells me when to practice or forces me to play.

That being said, my parents are very supportive of everything I do, from skateboarding to music. However, as I asked them (very casually , of course) if I could think about going to one, I was shot down on the spot.

I did not think this was right at all. I didn't even have a chance to explain anything about it! Needless to say, I was a bit mad, though I really composed myself well.

Thing is, now I'm stuck. I know that I will be a musician when I grow up, and I know that I really want to do this. My dad is a psychology professor; he can see through all of flowery stuff that I could attempt. to win him over. All I really need to do is find away to get my point across. Please help?

(I am 14, and I hate to say this at risk of sounding really cocky, but they know that I'm really freaking good.)

practice a song reallly hard and play it for then tell them that you want to do music more then anything else (if that's true) therefore going to music school is the best thing you could possibly do.

You need to find out why the answer was no. Maybe they dont have the money for a specialized school. Maybe they aren't ready to send you off to any kind of boarding school and not be able to see you everyday.

Knowing why they said no, would be key in finding out how to get them to see it your way.

You didn't mention your age. Nor the cost of the boarding school. It may be as simple as they are up to their eyeballs saving for college for you, they can't afford boarding school. Happened to me. Seek ways to increase your music education locally which may mean a college scholarship. Julliard is not cheap.
