The catholic church not only burned books but literally put a halt to scientific inquiry... you'd be executed for heresy if you went against any of their beliefs.

Even psychology books, they wanted the writer executed as well, however, he enjoyed protection by the king at the time as he was the kings tutor. All the books were burned and he was no longer able to practice psychology simply because he didn't believe the soul controlled our actions.

Well when the Catholic church came forcing themselves on the Pagans, there wasnt much written - it was passed on verbally - so I would have to say the Nazis burned more books

The Catholic Church destroyed more religions though - or TRIED to...

The Nazi's were working alongside the Catholic Church (with Adolf Hitler being a devout Catholic) though the Nazi's were the ones who were doing most of the work in the Holocaust (though the Catholic Church helped Nazi war criminals escape and some Catholic priests were directly involved in war crimes).

I did not know that Hitler burned Bibles, or fried at the steak those who translated it into common language. They were initially allies with Rome. I do know who killed more, and they are reviving the Latin Mass: Guess Jesus must have made a side trip to Rome and learned it.

Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

Edit: You wanted a figure: Well Papal Rome is estimatged to have killed 50 or 60 million in the name of God. Entire nations were forced to accept their supremacy by the sword.

And in the Americas, after an Indian was read the Requiremento, in Latin or Spanish, which the Indians didn't understand, then they were either enslaved or if they resisted, they were killed (30 million died in the Americas).

Perhaps that is why the Muslims did likewise to the Christians--they were getting their just dues. see www.revelado.org/islam.htm

out of those two choices my guess would be the catholic church, but in all honesty, with most wars in the past, so much information has been destroyed. it is impossible to even guess how much knowledge has been lost or destroyed by any specific group of people.

I am hoping to break the record when I start a new book burning charity drive. The first book on the list for everyone to bring in and burn is Charles Darwin's "Origin of the Species".

It's not important who burned more books. What matters is both burned millions of people. Horrible.

I honestly don't know the numbers.

I'd presume the Nazis for the first, the Christians for the second.

Of course, this is just a guess. I'm not really sure..

The answer to both of those questions is pretty well lost in the mists of time.

Which would be an excellent place for this kind of incendiary post, as well.
