I like your question but i have to disagree about evidence suggesting unimaginable agony for eternity. for the scriptures say a Ecclesiastes 9:5 that the living are conscious that they will die but as for the dead they are conscious of NOTHING at all. so how will you suffer if you wont know that youre suffering or feel any pain for you are dead? Dont feel bad about not being perfect none of us are for Ecclesiates 7:20 says for there is NO MAN righteous in the earth that keeps doing good and does NOT SIN.
Also burn in hell theory is a lie for Revelation 20:13 says hell delivered up those that was in it & vs 14 says HELL was thrown into the Lake of Fire, IF hell was burning how can you throw something that burns into something else that burns? doesnt make sense does it..... hell must be something else & regardless of what ones been taught all there life, people will come out of hell for Rev.20:13 says so.......

Well, is spending middle ground a better alternative? Would you want to spend eternity just watching people being tortured in Hell and envy those who are rejoicing in Heaven? In Islam, all Muslims will be able to enter heaven, as long as we seek repentance for our sins. If our repentance is true, then we will serve the sentence in Hell for the crime and then enter Heaven after we have received punishment. God knows that no one is perfect, so the window of repentance is always open for all of His servants.
(Just an addition: Repentance is not just sitting and grovelling to God about being sorry for our sins. There are generally four steps to repentance - immediately stop committing the sin, feel truly ashamed about it, vow never to do it again and apologize to those whom we may have violated in committing the sin.)

No one is perfect. We all sin. The beauty of Christianity is forgiveness on repentance.
The middle ground, if you wish to put it that way, happens in the millennium, which starts when Christ returns. Some will have mortal souls there, meaning subject to die, while others will have immortal souls, meaning that they've been justfied (God's elect), which means the 2nd death, the death of the soul will not happen to them. At the end of the millennium, satan is turned loose for a short time. Those with mortal souls who follow satan then will go into the lake of fire, which is the 2nd death

Because people either want to serve the Lord and be saved from hell or they don't. There is no straddling the fence.
You are right, that there is no one who is perfect, but we should always do our personal best. God is not calling for people who are perfect because this is an unattainable goal, but what he IS calling for are people who are willing to die to sin and earnestly seek his ways. He knows our hearts and everyone will be judged according to their individual fruits.

No you don't have to be perfect to go to heaven. God sent his son to die for us,so we could be cleasned through him and be able to live forever. It's either one way or the other you choose Jesus or you don't. Simple as that.

hehehehe! what "evidence" suggests such things? in a universe of infinite possibilities you can imagine only two. religion has stifled your soul and muted you to a 2 dimensional either/or entity

It's not really like that. they just teach that in religions. Just keep in mind that God is fair and he's a loving God.
