Nope. My niece just got married, no gods involved.
Her new mother-in-law was furious.

I'm a Christian and husband is an atheist. We wrote out own vows that talked about our commitment to each other. God was not included in the vows, since Jim does not believe, the words would have been meaningless.

I married a christian so I married in a church, but there was no mention of any particular deity nor any readings from the bible. We had readings from Elizabeth Barrett Browning instead.

Hmm, let's see. If Christians get married, is there any mention of Buddha in the ceremony?

Nope. We didn't. It's surprisingly easy to do.
It was much harder to locate a non-pastor Justice of the Peace.

Depends on the atheist and if their partner is an atheist to. If they are both atheists then I doubt it.

Depends if they go the religion route to please their family, or if they choose their own route and do the justice of the peace thing and don't have any religious stuff included.

I guess it would depend on the person they were marrying.
I personally wouldn't unless my partner really really wanted it to be in there.

My husband and I didn't..
We also didn't have any reference to obey... When we married we took steps to ensure that our vows indicated we were an equal partnership..
