stops working for about 30 sec, hard drive stops grinding, then boom it grinds away and everything is back to normal, what can this be, ive tried anti virus,norton and spybot search and destroy, what else can this be? 4800+ samsung 500 gig sata2 windows xp x86 sp2 thanks!

done that already, boots fine in safe mode, but obviously that loads the bare min so it should, and the drive is new, its done this on another drive for me as well

Could just be that your drive is failing.
Try some of the following options.
start your computer in command prompt mdoe and have it run scandisk.
See if you can start your computer safe mode, go into computer management and arrange to have scandisk scan your pc when it restarts.
