I was driving home at night and noticed I was being followed. The car would come up right behind me, fall back to where I couldn't see the headlights anymore, and speed up to be right on my ass again. This is a country road with some areas of good curves and plenty of turns. I was followed for about six miles and was starting to get really scared. So I went through a stop sign at a four way (in the country-deserted all the time). The car was nowhere in sight. Half a mile later there it is again with red and blue light flashing, and I get a ticket-but only for admitting to it (stupid!) when he asked if I knew why he stopped me. He claimed I also went through another stop sign in town (did not) and that I was speeding---four miles ago!!!. He comes back and gives me a ticket for the one thing I admitted to-that he didn't see. Do I have a good chance of getting out of this one? If he hadn't been following me in such a scary way I would have been fine.

Firsst of all, the road is open to all who want to drive on it and cop's pay tax's for that right just like everyone else, just like you do. Also, just because they are a cop and you are in front of them doesn't mean he can only follow or be on that road for a certain period of time. Did you ever consider that possibility that since he is a county officer with probable a several square mile beat that possibly he just so happened to be going to same place, or close to it as you were when he observed your violations? I am so tired of people who violate the law coming up with stupid crappy reasons to complain like "the cop followed me forever and then decided to stopped me" as an excuse. And, just because you admitted to a violation is not the reason the cop stopped you, he stopped you because he observed you commit the violation. And the cop isn't required to stop you immediately when he observes a violation. He can stop you anywhere he desires and you need to consdier that possibly he was running a check on you and your vehicle for officer safety reasons prior to stopping you, cops always do it. When I stop someone, I always ask them if they knew why I stopped them, here's why, I have a dash camera and a mic on me, when you admit that you committed a violation and it's on tape, that is good evidence in court when you go in and try to fight the ticket and lie to the judge! Also, he probably got you on video committing the violation. You broke the law, pleed guilty and pay the fine!

I understand your fear if you didn't know it was an officer following you but I guess they can follow you into HELL if they want to. No excuse to run the stop sign on the road tho. Ah.. live and learn..I doubt the Judge will let you out of the ticket. Good Luck tho, and next time a car is following u and u don't know who it is, just drive to the nearest police station. You should be safe there and be able to find out what is going on to boot..

It would depend. A state police officer can only follow you in that state(unless you did a huge crime) But townies can not go into another town unless they are met by the other towns police and sometimes not even then(the other towns police would take over). That's in Massachusetts anyway.

My brother's department requires them to write one ticket per day. If it is the end of the day, guess what? You are lucky Bob. If you follow ANYONE long enough, they will commit SOME moving violation. If you pissed my brother off, he would time your blinker light with a stop watch. There is a California law on how often the blinker would have to turn on or off. My brother gave a tow truck operator who ticked him off a ticket for not having two FULL buckets of sand (as required by law, for sopping up oil spills).

On my brother's department, motorcycle officers have to write one ticket per hour, and regular officers have to write one per day. Parking enforcement (meter maids) have to write 50 a day. So there you go. If it's the end of the shift, and they have not filled their quota, you are out of luck.

The Policeman had no authority to arrest you if he had no valid complaint against you.
