Taoism doesn't deal with the afterlife, in fact it was picked up by mystic cults who tried to extend life on earth with alchemy, but only ended up poisoning themselves.

Everybody dies but not every body continues to live. I'm sure you heard stories of people that had a near death experience and it changed there life for the better. They got a glimpse of something that scared them so something does exist after death. I am sure you must feel like you are more then what you see now, don't ignore that feeling because God drops little clues like that and we must go with it, after all the feeling came from your heart but if the heart is bad and full of disease then those feelings will be corrupted.

Most do because it's a big selling point, appeals to the ego as well as alleviates fears.
