I have such a hard time staying asleep. EVERYTHING wakes me up. My boyfriend was talking on the phone last night in the next room, with the door closed, and it woke me up immediately. This happens all the time, whenever he tries to put dishes away or watches TV, or even when the cat goes to use the litter box and paws at the litter.

I have non-addictive sleeping pills, which I take sometimes, and they do knock me out really well, but there has to be a drug-free way of staying asleep. Why do I wake up at every little tiny sound?

You must be an extremely light sleeper, which is also a form of insomnia. Maybe you should consult with your doctor and have him or her prescribe something stronger. You don't necessarily become addicted to pills, but you can become dependent on them. In other words, a true addiction compels your body to take more and stronger doses; whereas a dependency means you can't fall asleep without taking the pill. I use Melatonin, which is very mild, but will eventually relax me enough to fall asleep, and I suffer from insomnia. I tried Valerian, but couldn't stand the smell or the taste of it. I always try to go the natural route before resorting to pills, and I have a real phobia against prescription drugs that have to be taken on a long-term basis. Some side effects are not immediate, but can be cumulative, causing damage to organs over a period of time, or leading to incurable diseases. But do talk to your doctor, and see if there isn't something else that can be effective for you, and at the same time, non-addictive. Good luck! You might also try ear plugs to filter out background sounds, which seem to be your trigger of wakefulness. Also, cut down on caffeine after 6:00 p.m.

I don't have any advice but to say I have the same problem. But I use sleep aids. I can wake up at the slightest sound. I hate to be woken up like that. So sleep stuff from the doctor is what I do for the problem. I think my personal sleep problem is caused by old trauma from my childhood. Hope you get some answers.

Put on a mask, no lights, take a hot shower before u go to bed, meditate before u go to bed, don't watch scary movies before u go to bed and get ear plugs! These really help.

Hope it works!!! merry xmas

mask, ear plugs, keep your hands and feet warm, and preferably keep your window open for oxygen (if that would wake you up, just leave it open for a while before going to bed, then shut it)
