Has anyone ever taken their rat on a car ride? Are there any precautions I should take or something I could buy? I think I'm going to get a smaller soft traveling cage for her.

There's not much else to do. Since your getting a carrier I think she will be more comfortable. Remember to bring her real cage though so you can switch back when you get there. Just make sure she is somewhere that the carrier will not move around in the car. If your riding with someone else or your not driving then put her in that persons lap. I wouldn't put water in unless its a really long drive though because it would spill every where and make a mess. Food would be fine to put in though because its much easier to clean.

Just short trips so far, to the vet or running errands. We have a small animal carrier & we put paper towels & a little food in it for the journey & carry a plastic bag of peas or other veggie too. If we ever take them on an over-nighter, we'll use our "emergency" cage, which is smaller than our regular cages but can hold a water bottle & hammock.
Our rats seem to enjoy these short jaunts.

I took my rats all the way across the country on the train to my house, which is pretty far! And they were only babies.

One thing I would recommend though is getting a water bottle that isn't so sensitive to being jolted about, because the water comes out so easily, and made the little tank all wet.

Take them in a well ventilated tank, it would be better than a cage for traveling.

Good luck with that !

Hi. Thanks for asking. I have a pet rat called harriet! We bought her on holiday in sydney and travelled her back to south aust. by car. What we did was bought a water dispenser that they have to suck on for the water to come out. We put the seed in a small container but you will find that she wont eat much on the trip. To comfort her, put some sort of box in the cage and stuff it with lots of tissues and she will rip them up and sleep in them. Also, cover the cage with a light coloured towel. Hope this helped! xx

You may want a solid one that you can hang a hammock in so that she can sleep in it. A towel on the bottom works better than trying to keep bedding in it
