Scream and cuss and jump around.
Seriously, try it.

First, how often do they occur and how long do they last? Are they taking up a lot of your time, keeping you awake at night? If they are not very troublesome you can choose something to do that would divert your attention. If they just seem to settle in and go on and on I would suggest you develop a mantra or affirmation and when you find the troubling thoughts are present, then began to say the affirmation over and over and over and over. This will help on two levels; first it will stop the thoughts and secondly you are putting the affirmation into your conscience and subconscious where it will take root and stay. The affirmation could be anything that you feel you need or that will help you such as, "I no longer have unwanted thoughts." Or maybe: "Every day, in every way I am becoming happier and happier."
I promise you this will work. At the beginning it will take conscious effort to begin mentally saying the affirmation but it won't be long before it just kicks in automatically. If the thoughts come on when you're trying to sleep, just start repeating the affirmation mentally and keep doing it until you fall asleep.
Good luck.

I have the same problem, feels like a mouse running around on a wheel sometimes. I am seeing a psychologist and she is helping with chatting and teaching me to reprograme my thoughts, it is easier said then done sometimes. I think my unwanted thoughts have turned into an Obsession and it is me that has made this fear turn into an obsession. It does take time and you do need to challenge these thoughts, write it down and ask question on where is the evidance and each thought do this and soon your mind will start to think differently. Put things back into your life that you use to enjoy, eat well and get out and occupy you mind with other things, like a walk or cooking and talk to friends, family or who ever. It takes time and you have good days and bad, but they say it does get easier :)
