Not that I want the '80's to come back with the huge leg o' mutton style sleeves! But no matter how ornate or simple the dress, once you get to the bust area they all seem alike. Why do you think they are staying around for so long? Nobody ever seems truly comfortable in them, and they are not flattering to all.

Steph = no. I actually appreciate your input, it's good!

I actually like the strapless look. It is elegant and simple. Plus I look great in strapless dresses so I'm not complaining. And I'm getting married in summer so for me it is definately better to go without sleeves.
There are heaps of dresses out there that have straps, sleeve, caps etc. You just have to look.
(Any strapless dress can have sleeves made for it by a seamstress)

I've never seen anyone except a supermodel look decent in a strapless gown. You've got this line cutting you right above the bust, plus, most of us have a little fleshy pad right under our armpits--which looks OH so attractive.

I'm with you, I don't like them either, never have. However, a strapless dress is VERY easy to add sleeves to--you'll have a seam where the original dress ended, but that can usually be covered with trim or made to look like part of the design. I've sewn wedding dresses, and altered a few, and that's usually the biggest request, is for the gown to have some kind of sleeve.

My wedding dress was actually a tea length dress and I had more complements on it. It had sleeves but they were sheer lace. I agree strapless isn't for everyone. Try looking in the prom dress section, the mother of the bride section, the party ball gown section. You will be surprised at what is out there in a non bridal area.

I think strapless gowns are pretty. BUT they are not the only style that is pretty. The huge majority of gowns these days are strapless. Someone who wants a sweetheart neckline or a long sleeve will have to search long and hard.

And, some of these 'sleeves' that get added to the dresses are nothing but a bit of fluff covering the farthest edges of one's neckline.

I think for many the strapless is not flattering. Mine is a strapless sweatheart top, But I do love the uniqueness of dresses with sleeve's also. I know at Davids Bridal and Alfred Angelo you can have any sleeves cap, three quarter, love or tank top straps added I think that is wonderful.

When I went shopping for my wedding dress (around this time last year) I had a terrible time finding a dress with sleeves. I didn't want cap sleeves added, I wanted a dress that actually had sleeves. More than half of the shops I tried had *nothing* that wasn't strapless. Very frustrating!!

I don't like strapless gowns at all. I don't feel comfortable with *nothing* holding me up (meaning some sort of strap or sleeve) and I hate strapless bras! They are irritating to me and you have to keep pulling it up. I'm more of a jeans and t-shirt girl and pretty modest so that has something to do with it. I'm just not that comfortable in strapless anything.

I am sooo uncomfortable in strapless. I wore a strapless dress as a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding and every other picture of me I am pulling up my dress.

My wedding gown was originally strapless, but I had the seamstress add spaghetti straps on and it made the dress look so much better.

Just a bit... like a few others said - not many people look good in a strapless dress. I would prefer a halter top rather than strapless... my bridesmaid dress for my brothers wedding was strapless and i do not fit into those very well, lol. i always felt like i was popping out of it.

My dress is being made by my grandmother and the pattern includes sleeves. She can make the sleeves any length. Too may people go sleeveless. I think since popular trends tend toward skinny and showing more skin, sleeveless is preferred to follow the trend of showing more skin.

This is a picture of the dress she's making me (I'm not wearing the thing on her head, just a regular veil): http://img.sewingtoday.com/cat/20000/itm_img/V2788.jpg
