Actually, there is no legal limit to how long mixed sexed siblings can share a room in any state that I know of. I think by the time the little girl is 6 or 7, that would be time to consider splitting them up.

My sister and brother (1 year apart) shared a room for a year while they were roughly 11 and 12. It took my Dad that long to finish a bedroom downstairs for her to move into. Wasn't a problem.

I have never head it is illegal. What about families that can't afford more than one bedroom? That's rediculous. I have three kids and 4 bedrooms. My son at age 3 told me he wanted to move into his sisters room with her. I agreed because there was no harm in it. My daughter decided at age 11 that she wanted her own room again. I moved them back then. At some point the kids will start complaining, or needing privacy. You will know when it is time!

I think it's when a girl is eight. Not sure if that is legal but the local authority *might* rehouse on that basis.
One reason I wanted a girl was because then I might get a bigger house! - as it was all of my four boys had to share - but I wouldn't have swapped them for anything.

Edit :Twelve in your area w/chick? - that seems a bit old.

My kids are 7 and they share a room. I think sharing a room with a sibling is a valuable experience, and one that I look back on with great fondness. When my kids really ask to be separated, we'll consider it. But for now, they enjoy each other's company.

I don't think it's a legal issue (nor should it be).

I believe it will be fine till they reach teenager....because my children is sharing a room. Son is 12 yrs and my daughter is 5yrs. But now he already wish to have his own room, said for more privacy...i guess it is the time for him too to get his own bed room.
Teach them to care and respect for each other. There shouldn't be any problem i believe so....at least till the age of 10. But really i don't know the situation in your country.
In certain places i see children are growing up real fast....maybe observe your children needs and desire than decide the right time to give them separate room.

In the UK this is some info I found:

Two children of different sexes under the age of 7 can share a bedroom.

However I have heard as late as 14.

I never heard of it being a legal matter. While they are young I think it is fine to share a bedroom! Once they start becoming more self conscious and before puberty it is best to separate the children! For now I would not fret about it you have time! Good Luck with your house selling and hunting! 80)

I shared a room with my brother until I was 9 and he was 8. It was not an issue for us at all, but once we had our own rooms we were very happy.

There are no legal limitations. Though i think the choice will be taken out your hands once they begin puberty. Because they would properly expect to have separate rooms for privacy and comfort.
