I've known many people involved in such dilemmas in my lifetime. I am certain its not what God intended.

religion is not to blame, it's the approach and the couple who lack commitment ...
almost all the muslims i know who married western women while studying abroad got divorced and most , not all of their wives ran away with the kids.
they were in love when they got married and ignored their differences, the women probably got bored of arab/muslim life and the men felt they should have listened to their mothers and married local girls. in the end most of the children lived away from their fathers.
most interfaith marriages are not thought through that's why they fail.
for their own sake and the sake of their future children they should THINK before getting married, they should discuss important issues and be totally honest with each other. marriage is not a game , it's a lifelong commitment.
people from different continents lived happily together because they knew what they were getting into and stayed committed, but most of the times , when people don't take it seriously , it ends in divorce whether the couple are from different religions or have everything in common.

yes, i grew up in a home that was christian on both sides. but in different churches there are different beliefs. even among other christian churches. My mother was Baptist, my step father was member of Church of Christ. Both are christian churches with only minor differences. Baptists are old fashioned with our beliefs. In Church of Christ women often wore slacks to Church.Which i see alot of these days in my own church. this did not sit well with my mother. Also Church of Christ believe Jesus saving Power is in the Baptism. We Baptists believe that our salvation is in our hearts and our lives. baptism is only after salvation and is an outward testimony for what has already taken place in our heart. Baptists believe the difference in beliefs about when exactly salvation takes place is an important detail and should be completely understood. Anyway, they were both Christians but there were alot of fights as to which way the children should be directed. And which Church should the children attend. As they both were Church goers and were faithful to thier Churches. Well they ended up divorced 17 yrs later when we were about grown. It was then that we felt free to believe as we felt in our hearts. Not as a competition between parents. This was very confusing for my siblings and I. I just thank God for leading us down the path that i know is right in my heart. Salvation is in accepting Christ and asking for forgiveness for our sins. Although i believe baptism should follow salvation because after all Jesus was Baptized.

Not divorced, exactly, but my ex-GF & I of seven years split because of the Catholic attitude, and her inability to convert me to it.
BTW, what I mean by "Catholic attitude" was that when asked a question, one should automatically spit back the approved answer, like the call-and-response in a Catholic Church. No questioning, thinking, or variation allowed. As an atheist, that obviously never flew, and eventrually she called it a choice bwetween her faith & me - and we all know imaginary beings can be perfect.

I answered a question just a little while ago about this. Yes, but it wasn't totally because of our faiths. He seen to think that he could go out and exercise his marital duties and then go to confession and be forgiven. I didn't see it that way. I could have forgiven once, maybe, but not over and over. He just felf his faith gave him the permission to do it. When I tried to tell him that I couldn't go along with his beliefs, he struck me and it was over.

Only once, when one spouse suddenly went deeply into fundamentalism and kept going deeper, deeper, deeper, until he was no longer the man she had married. She got the kids, he got committed.
But I know many happy couples where one is a believer and the other atheist. They just respect each other and leave it alone.

Well, I don't know if the man got a divorce, but I do know he abandoned his family because his wife and daughters became Jehovah's Witnesses.
He moved to another city to get away from them and forbade them to contact him in anyway.
His loss, I guess.

My mother left my father when she re-converted back to Christianity. Considering we'd been living our lives as Pagan hippies, that was pretty bizarre.

Was a factor in mine.
My ex, though agnostic, hid it from his co-workers and pretended to be a believer in front of them.
He would not allow me to practice my paganism for fear people would "find out" and it would hurt his career.
As I said, just a factor; a symptom of a much larger desire of his to dominate and control me.

I'm waiting until the holidays are over to get a divorce. See, I said to him, thou shalt buyeth me a laptop for xmas. Thus sayeth me, well, he's got until that night to produce a laptop! Because if he can't worship me, and do all of my commandment then that man is going to get outed.
