that rule is so gosh darn stupid and i hate it! what is the point!? they broke up, they don't want each other, so why does it tick them off!? I mean I want to go out with my friends ex but i can't because of this stupid rule and i know she thinks i'd be betraying her! i mean come'on you got your chance, you didn't work out, so what!? i mean things happen! I'm still best friends with my ex and he went out with one of my friends and it didn't bother me! (they did end up breakin up but who cares?) why does it bother so many other people? If you weren't able to work it out and get attached why should it matter!? who else thinks this rule is freakin stupid!?

their relationship only lasted 3 weeks and never a kiss and only a few hugs. very simple, very clear he doesn't like her because she is much too "friendly" with way too many guys

There is a reason for that "rule". Just wait till it happens to you, you will be singing a different tune for sure!

I think sometimes its dumb, but then when I think back on one of my friends dating my ex...(well I just met her at college so we were just becoming friends...which didn't work out in the end so much) But she didn't even ask me if I minded. It didn't work out with them...well because I sort of freaked out and they broke it off. But it sort of doesn't help friendships when it comes to girls. She was really shady about it too...no good all the way around unless the girl is for sure over the guy.

I agree for the most part. If they broke up years ago and it was mutual, then there is no reason for her to get mad. That's just stupid. But if it's a fairly recent break up and she was really hurt about it then it does seem kind of mean to go after him.

They have a past, a history for crying out loud. I would not consider you a very good friend if you dared to date my ex when you knew I had feelings and history with the guy. It's just common sense and courtesy. Leave your friend's ex alone unless you know it's okay with her AND him.

Just forget about the stupid rule and do what you think is right for the both of you. Hey, it's your life, not their's anyway. Merry Christmas.

I agree with you. The rule is outdated.
Just because she cant be happy with him doesn't mean you cant be.
Just be sure he dosen't play you and that she is really broke up with him. You never know but if he isn't and she is...........
follow your heart. Many great relationships started off that way.

Actually, it depends on the relationship. Do you know why they broke up? Maybe it's for a good reason.

i think it matters most depending on how their relationship went.
if it was serious and the break up was tough then you probably shouldn't.
but if it didn't last long and they broke up but managed to stay friends - then it shouldn't be a problem.
