Yeah, to be completely honest, we truly don't know if he's real or not.

That's why Faith is so compelling, and alarmingly baffling.

he gave us a plant that can
clothe us
warm us
provide us with nutrition
inspire us
comfort us
heal us
shelter us.
a plant that grows nearly everywhere on the planet even in some places where no other plants will grow.
that replenishes the soil
that does not need pesticides
that is safer to ingest than aspirin
It has been with us since the beginning and the more we grow as beings the more we learn about the plant and it's uses.
seem to me that that alone is pretty good evidence of some sort of designing force.
maybe not male
maybe not human
maybe not corporeal
maybe not comprehensible
but that is how I know there is a divine being.

well, think about this, the government does not tax churches. Could it be that religion is the governments way of controlling us! If everybody thought there was no God there would be chaos because people would not have the whole "if I'm good Ill die and go to heaven" attitude. My personal opinion is that the government created religion to control the masses. Oh yeah, remember when they criticized the female judge for going to church when she was trying for a position in the supreme court. yep.

There is no good reason to believe god(s) exist.

"Theology is not what we know about God, but what we do not know about Nature." - Robert Ingersoll

Response to "How do I get faith?" -

"Faith is a cop-out. It is intellectual bankruptcy. If the only way you can accept an assertion is by faith, then you are conceding that it can't be taken on its own merits." - Dan Barker (former preacher)

Well, there are a lot of ways. You can have a personal experience of God, but usually that does not happen until you already believe in him. You can talk to people who believe in God and they can tell you their experiences and you might find that their stories are very convincing and that there must be something to their belief. You can believe the writing in the Bible, which although a compilation of dozens of human authors consistently describes God and his point of view.

I Believe there is a God and I cannot, outside of my personal relaitional dynamic, prove to you that He exists. My opinion is that its somewhat obvious, though my opinion is bias. Look around you, at the intricacy of your being and the complexity of your surroundings. For me to try to comprehend the complexity of everything which I am able to interact coming into existance through shere luck is absolutley rediculas. I cannot explain how God created all this or how He came to be or has been for eternity is just something I have to understand that I will never be able to understand. It is much more comforting to think that there is a God who made me in His image and loves me enough to give me the free will to live for Him or live for myself than to think that Im am an accident lucky enough to float through this enormous accidental universe all alone and under the controll only of the interconnected physical laws that allow this "accident" to happen.

I expect to be negative thumbed repeatedly, but for me, I know the Lord is real because I have a relationship with Him. He picks me up when am hurting and He's joyful when something wonderful happens. He's every bit as real to me as my other best friends. The funny thing is, faith is a large part of it, absolutely, but I also have experiential *proof*. It probably wouldn't be classed as empirical because to others it would be viewed as subjective, but I know He's real because I've witnessed His glory and His kindness and His love.

The Bible is God's love letter to us; God is the actual love.

Absolutely Not. I do believe my bible holds all truth. But, God and I go way back. When I was 8 yrs old he entered my heart and my life and he has been there ever since, not leaving my side for a moment. I know him personally. If only people were so dependable and reliable....

Religion is based on Faith. We believe the dollar is worth something based on faith. We believe that blue is the color of blue based on faith, not green or yellow, but blue. The same is for God. We may not see him, but Faith that he is real makes him real. It is not necessarily "blind" faith, as some rely on his reality based on their experiences w/"miracles." Some believe God has to be real based on things that are tangible and we can see. For example: Is it really that difficult to believe a greater being created the beautiful things of the Earth?... such as a child's laugh and smile, or an emerald-colored ocean?

From what book?
Theists have been arguing for the existence of God for centuries - and I have yet to see their arguments restricted to "a book." Philosophers like Chesterton, Lewis and Flew embraced theism because they could not escape its arguments - not because of any magical book.
