another good forum to ask questions like these is

as it has a forum just for the pagan beliefs.

They have info etc.

Happy Yule!

Norse Heathen: For me, it starts at Modhranict (Mother Night) or Solstice Eve. The Yule log is brought in and kindled with the need-fire bundle, which contains nine kinds of wood. Holly is hung at the windows and doors, as well as protection runes, as this is the last night of the Wild Hunt. The most usual prtection rune is the snowflake - actually a bindrune of Hagal and Elkhaz. An offering bowl of rommigrot or Norn's porridge with fruits and nuts are left out for the landvettir. On Solstice Morning, a song is sung to greet the new morning. Various offerings are made until January 1, to mark the 12 days of Yule, which finishes with a big party on New Year's Eve. This festival honors Freyr with a big feast of pork and possibly venison, if available. There are jokes, dancing and games. This is probably the origin of the New Year's Eve party. As I have always said, most of what the Norse Heathen believe exists behind and under the long-standing traditions of the European people. Strip away the Christian veneer and it's there

What I do most years (I have a sick child this year, so cancelled) is to hold a party. There are games to play, movies to watch, etc...but the party starts with our service for the holiday. Then the party keeps going until the dawn. We do another short prayer and blessing, and then everyone goes home and falls asleep. (giggle)

Alone...This year I will be lighting candles at my altar and thinking about where in my life I can use this energy of rebirth and change, what I'd like to change in my life, what I'd like to keep going...and thanking the gods for the amazing blessings I have in my life. I also wrote an essay on Yule, which is posted at Street Prophets (www. streetprophets.com) and writing that and posting it...and discussing the themes in it...will be part of this year's celebrations.

And I'll stay up all night to see the sun reborn.

Lighting up the darkness with lights and candles and fires and a worship ceremony at the moment of solstice, which was about 11 hours ago.

I will go to the woods and celebrate a little alone, but also this year, I plan on going to the local ADF Druid ritual with some of my good friends. Should be fun.

Dont be a pagan - sure it's nice when youre young and healthy, but when life hands you trouble, bad health or pain beyond your wildest imagination, God will help you - the beach and mountains will too - but that's only because God created them for you. God loves you. I will be praying for you. I dont say that condescendingly, I say it because I mean it - God does love you.
