Let's point out the obvious... because your vagina is BETWEEN your legs and therefore the access to it is only granted by spreading your legs. If you're doing it from the back and are bent over something like a desk, then no, you dont' have to spread as far, but you still have to.
And I'm sorry you had to ask this question. Clearly you don't know where a vagina is located.

They don't always spread their legs when they have sex. Sometimes they get on their knees, bend over, and my personal favorite lift them up in the air.
