Why do they almost always have to mis-characterize, or even totally make up beliefs of the Catholic faith in order to "prove" it wrong? I have rarely seen any intellectual honesty on so many of the web sites, or little tracts that people peddle. I'm curious.

Portland: "I could very easily join the Roman Catholic church if they would deny the infallibility of the Pope and the worship of Mary and works righteousness."
Maybe you don't really understand what Papal infallibility is and why God did this. It's been used only a hand full of times.
"Worship of Mary" is a prime example of misrepresenting Catholicism. In fact, worship of any creature is a serious sin. Catholics only worship the Triune God.
"Works righteousness" - not clear what this means, but in James 1:22 "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."

simply put, people hate the total truth, because it requires alot from people. Roman Catholicisim doesn't water down its infallible teachings on morals and faith, no matter what the modern world thinks, this includes being anti-contraptives, anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, anti-female clergy, etc. etc. People don't want to listen to the Pope, even Catholics and Protestants alike, becuase he speaks the truth of Jesus Christ. Roman Catholicism requires that people repent of their sins and turn to the life-giving Gospel of Jesus Christ no ifs or buts about it! God bless.

The word Catholic means Universal. Christ said, "I am building MY church, not the Roman church, not the Lutheran church (which I belong), not the Baptist church, etc, but MY church. It is faith in Christ, not a church that saves you. Now having said that, I know that I have brothers and sisters in the Roman Catholic church who love Christ and trust him and are saved. I have the same problem that Luther had with the Catholic Church. They seem to put more emphasis on the "Church" and Mary than they do Christ.
I could very easily join the Roman Catholic church if they would deny the infallibility of the Pope and the worship of Mary and works righteousness.
Luther (who knew more about the Roman Catholic Church than you or I ever will) said, "Grace Alone, Faith Alone and Scripture Alone" The TRUE church is spiritual and invisible.

becuase being a member of christs church requires change, a full change of heart. remember in acts when felix and another guy, i think agrippa but it alludes me now...........remember how they would converse with st paul quite often. ok firstly these 2 officers were already instructed in "the way"(of christianity) to a certain degree, well these men of intellect valued the intellect of paul and it often seemed that they wanted this christianity for themselves, but notice for both men when paul talks about the coming, and judgement they quickly have paul taking back to his prison quarters. why so? because there is a change required and we know a judgement is coming on us all, many fear this change and the judgement not only of god(whom they should fear alone) but from life long friends and family members rejecting them ridiculing them etc.......
all the anti catholic tracts and websites etc are ridiculous. it only shows more clearly that the catholic church is the one founded by jesus christ and that the catholic church is the pinnacle of christianity. has anyone noticed that the top protestant theologians etc when they search for teh truth or try to debunk the catholic church they almost always become catholic, for example scott hahn, tim staples amongst others.
another point of interest, all these anti catholics are ignorant of history and the writings of the early church fathers, many of which predate the bible. this site will help catholic and protestants alike. http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/
as with bigotry, hatred, racism the main problem is FLAT OUT IGNORANCE!!!!. satans greatest friend and tool.
for those pointing out key areas where anti catholic people pounce on that is exactly why the question was asked, you talk a bout the papacy prayer to saints being wrong....have you tried catholic sources to see why we do this and what is done when we do this? if you did then we wouldn't have the problem.
here is scriptural basis for mary, prayer to saints papacy and more
http://www.scripturecatholic.com/
i encourage all to read including catholics, especially relapsed catholics who buy into the whole anti catholic stuff.

They do it to many other faiths also. I think they just want everyone to believe them so they make up stuff thinking it will bring us to them. In all actuality the people who go around lying and judging other religious groups just make me not want to join theirs. I am not Catholic but i have a lot of respect for the Catholics for many reasons one being they seem to be the most accepting and least judgmental of others. Even those who don't belong to their faith.

I have been a catholic for many years now, and it's simply Ignorants when I look at some of the questions on here regarding Catholicism, I can tell you it is the truest form of Christianity, unfortunately everyone wants to get on the band wagon these days and start their own religion, because it is quite a money maker today.
peace be with you.

Without specific items to debate your point is ill made. I believe the big problems with Catholicism is praying to the Saints (Jesus said to pray to the Father in his name). Also, Priests not allowed to wed. Priests with the power to absolve sin and require "Hail Mary's and Our Fathers." Oh, the veneration of Mary is another problematic.

I doesn't matter if you're catholic or protestant, all you need is the Holy Spirit and you're fine. God will clear up those things in heaven.

I don't know who has been answering those questions, but apparently they don't know that people can have different religions, and still be Christian. All they have to believe is that Jesus died for them, The rest is just icing.
