I know I can't control your response and this might cancel out a lot of answers, but please no Bible quotes. I've read it. I want to know your mind on the matter.

They say that because it makes them feel superior. As if they're on the right path. They want non-Christians to see things their way and join them in Christianity.

A Christian can only believe they are lost because that is what God's word tells us. Where else could a Christian get his answer from ? if God says it what else matters? Yes like all atheists you claim to have "read" the bible, I surprised you said you read it only once, most say three times! I say rubbish, if you had read it or half of it you would not have had to ask such a stupid question. Read John chapter 3 and you will see what it takes to go to heaven.

Because in the Christian religion the only way you can be 'found' or 'saved.' is by slavation in Jesus. As in you except him into your heart to be your Lord and Savior. I don't belive it sis right to impose religion on people. But I have one wuestion for you. If you are so inetrested in this stuff, would you not ever think that it is something bigger than life itself that is influencing your belief. Good you read the bible, it has to make some sense. I'm sure you have some belief, but I know you probably won't admit it. Maybe you need salvation?

Because Christians believe that we are ALL children of God, that he knows each of us and we are all part of a bigger family under him.

Atheists deny there is a God, so they deny they are part of this bigger family.

Saying an athesit is 'lost' is just a way to confer that they don't believe they are part of God's domain.

Let me ask you this....
If your blood related sister or brother suddenly denied they were part of the family, and disowned everyone...wouldn't you say "I lost my sister/brother" ?? Would anyone think you were wrong to say it that way? or think you were insulting them? NO, they would assume you were either talking about a death OR someone who you've lost contact with.

Obviously, Christians mean the latter when they refer to atheists.

So for christians, Atheists are just God's children who have left the family, denied their heritage.

SOME Christians may mean it in a more condensding way.. as in your are "lost to the truth" or ignorant..but that isn't the right attitude to take. -- The attitude that they SHOULD and may DO take is that you have denied God and just need to find him and re-join.

There is no way in knowing for sure what EVERY Chrisitan means by it, so you have a choice how you CHOOSE to take it...so I'd recommend taking it in the best context and not the worst. Less negative feelings for YOU.

I am Christian and I believe that Atheists are not exactly lost, I believe that if there truly was a God, sometime in your life you will see that HE exists. I mean it doesn't have to be a huge miracle, but it will be something out of the ordinary. I repect atheists, but like Pascal said, "It's better to believe in something, than nothing at all."

I DID SAY CLEARLY ALSO.. ,, now lets see if what they testify too is what they keep also is that reasonable?? .
CHRISTIANS SAY they follow and teach what is written in the BIBLE AND THE BIBLE ALONE . YES OR NO? CAN SOMEONE who believes in the word of GOD NOT LIVE ACCORDING TO WHAT IT SAYS THEN ?

does the bible state that when a person dies they go to heaven or hell at death?? ---Isaiah 28:15
Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
Isaiah 28:14-16 what does this refer too?-------Habakkuk 2:5
Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto him all people:

I believe that there is a "way" to get to have eternity with God. So if we think of this way as a process, as a direction, like there is a "way" for you to get to your friends house.

Well if you don't know that "way" or don't follow that way, you become "lost."

(solo, Adam T, Scroobius, and Gregory: I'm happy to see that you have converted to Christianity, but you shouldn't talk so poorly about yourself. I mean you are a Christian right, since this question started with "Christians:")

The term "lost" means that they have not been saved by God. I don't "assume" that, I just believe what God has revealed about who is "saved" and who is not. It isn't just atheists. It's everybody whom God has not chosen to save and given his Holy Spirit to. It's not my opinion, on my own I would have no idea. It's what God says.

Are you being serious? Why do Christians (followers of the belief that Christ as Lord is the ONLY way to heaven) say that Atheists (people who believe that no God exists) are "lost"?

Edit - You've actually read the bible..... and don't understand this?

Because we are lost, and then found. Lost being dead in the spirit.

I always used "lost" to describe god-believers, especially christians. They are lost because they have lost their perspective on reality.
