Invest in a spray bottle, if you catch him/her scratching leather furniture, taking ornaments off your christmas tree, etc give her a squirt. You'll be surprised at how quickly they learn. Just go easy on the squirting, they get the idea :)

Hi friend,
YES. It is possible.
I train cats for a living, as a matter of fact. I've trained over 30 cats so far to perform as circus cats (of there own free will, of course...cats who are nervous or refuse to perform enjoy the run of the house as pets).
Some things I've taught : jumping through a hoop, roll over, sit pretty, raising a paw on the cue "Who's number one?", speak, roll a barrel, walk a tightrope, turn on lights, ring bells, play guitar and piano and drums, use the toilet, and lots more.
Now if I can train a cat to strum guitar strings, I know you can stop your kitty from misbehaving. What exactly are you having a problem with?
And yes - water pistols are a great tool. A squirt for scratchers and theives will stop that behavior instantly. Invest in a clicker, too...all of 50 cents at the pet store. Look up clicker training on Google for some great articles.

Before we start training our cats to do something or to stop doing something, we need to look at how cats learn. They don't understand English, they can't read books or attend lectures. They learn by experience. If the experience is good, they will try to repeat it. If the experience is unpleasant, they will try to avoid it in the future. They enjoy raking the furniture with their claws, so they continue to do it. But it's quite a shock when they stick their nose in a candle flame, so they won't do that again.
The key to training is to make sure that whatever you want your cat to do is exceedingly rewarding and pleasurable. Whatever you don't want your cat to indulge in must never be rewarding or fun, in fact, it must be unpleasant.
Sometimes we unintentionally reward our cats for obnoxious behavior. A common complaint is that the cat pounces on the owner at five in the morning, meowing up a storm and generally being a pest. What do the owners do? They get up and feed the cat, play with him or let him outside. Kitty has learned that his behavior gets him exactly what he wants.

Cats can absolutely be trained (see YouTube for a lot of videos), but remember your kitten is going to act like a kitten, you need to help him burn off his extra energy, not try to stop it.

A nice spray bottle should do the trick...spray the little rascal when he does something rotten...he will associate the water as a bad stimulus and will stop doing whatever bad things he is doing. Sounds easy right? It is...the trick is consistency.

yes it's possible to train a cat
but it's harder because they're not out to please you like a dog is. you have to motivate the cat to want to do whatever you're training it to do

It is, but you need to make it worth their while, with treats and praise. Spray-bottles of water are good deterrents if they are being bad.
