I worked for a company for 3 days. When I was let go, they said that I will not be receiving any wages. I worked 30 hours at $18.00 an hour. The reason that I was let go was do to a Felony conviction. I stated all this on my application when I was hired on. I was even asked to take a salary cut do to this felony conviction. ( which I took.) What steps do I take to get my earnings? And should I ask for more then what is do to me? I live in Texas if that helps.

File a complaint with the Texas Workforce Commission who administers the Texas Payday Law. You can find their number at the website. Just Google one of the above names and it will show up.

You worked they have to pay you for that time. The main thing is documentation. If you can show proof that you worked then that is awesome (time sheet etc.) When you do your taxes for 2007 report the wages you earned. You can also file a small claims report at the court house. Most of the time you can find a good lawyer that can supena the work records and stuff for about $250. As long as you can show or have documentation to show that you worked you can win in the claims court. Tax wise they will have to provide you with a W-2. You can also visit this webiste www.expertlaw.com they can help you step by step.

Even though there is no practical management information you could divert from their company, something in your demeanor is giving them cause for concern. They are asking you not to take any positions similar to the people contracting with you. If you are not planning to become a property manager, signing a non-competition agreement should not be a problem. Sign it. Get your money and concentrate on building your company. Good Luck.

You can call the office of your state legislator to get pointed at the state agency that regulates minimum wage and other workplace rules in your state. Who knows? They might even make the call on your behalf to get the ball rolling.

The federal labor board in your state can help you. You are never allowed NOT to pay someone who's worked for you.
