If I open it for my family in the morning for Bucks Fizz,
how long will the bubbles last?
will the champagne last for dinner in the afternoon?
should I put the cork back in?

1.5L liter bottle is the same as two 750ml normal bottles. 750ml bottles contain 4 - 5 glasses of wine. So you have approximately 10 glasses in the 1.5L glass.

If you need to re-cork, you can't unless you buy a different closure. the real cork you took out won't fit back in it again.

using one of the stopper things you should still have bubbles in the afternoon. but not as many as when you first opened it. If you don't reclose it, you won't have much.

You really can't put the original cork back in. And from the moment it's opened it'll start losing fizz. However, they do make special stoppers for champagne bottles that suck the air out which will preserve it for a longer time. They're usually only about $10 and up.

One bottle of champagne doesn't last very long, no matter how big it is.

Give everyone two glasses in the morning. The bubbles will not last and putting the cork back in won't help.

Lucky you! (It's fashionable not to like champagne, apparently, but I love the stuff.)
