About two hours ago a county sheriffs deputy cut me off in an intersection and just about wiped me out. He just kept right on trucking. As soon as I cleared the intersection a state trooper pulled me over and ran up asking if I was ok. As soon as I let him know that I, and my bike, were OK. He took off after the deputy, with lights and siren on. As he pulled out he said that the deputy had "just bought himself a citation". The deputy behaved EXACTLY the way I generally expect people too. The trooper pleasantly suprised me.

1.I experienced kindness from someone whomI did not think would act in that way.
2. I have seen people rise above their circumstances and act with good character and decency even though it could only have been good values , not logic, that led them to do so.
3.I went to the Christmas program at my daughter's school and witnessed harmony among people whom i would not have thoughjt could tolerate each other.

I love your question. We should all strive to see the good in each other. We spend more than enough time seeing what is negative .

Thank you.
PEACE

Actually, I've been thinking about something similar this afternoon; however, in reality, it's had a negative impact on my view of hamanity.

Someone told me about an occurrance this morning. A man in an SUV was cut off by a man in a truck, and they were almost in an accident. The guy in the SUV swerved just in time. However, at the next stoplight, he got out of his vehicle, and began to scream at the driver of the truck, ahead of him.

His anger continued, until he ended up walking to the truck, and pound his fists on the sides, front, and windows. The truck was locked in; he couldn't drive away. Even if he could, the man from the SUV was standing directly in front of the truck. He'd end up run over, if the truck driver tried to do anything.

The man eventually stopped pounding his fists on the sides and windows of the truck, and instead went to the driver's side window, and began to scream hysterically at the driver, who was shocked. The man was OBVIOUSLY angry, and appeared very violent, for the simple mistake of a man in a hurry.

Finally, when the light turned green, the SUV guy got back into his vehicle, and continued to follow the man in the truck to his destination. All the way, he threateningly swerved toward the truck, and almost caused several accidents.

All the guy in the truck had done, was pulled in front of the guy in the SUV. He was probably just trying to save his neck at work; from being late. Yes, it did almost cause an accident, but no one was hurt, and I think that both drivers should've been thankful for that.

But the SUV driver apparently felt a need to take things WAY out of hand. He almost caused several accidents, and disrupted a lot of lives in my city; after all, the whole commotion caused a lot of rough traffic, at a time in the morning when almost everyone is just trying to get to work.

I find it disgusting.

What's worse, the person that told me all of this was right there, and in no hurry. When she saw that the man from the SUV was getting violent, she said she "thought about" calling police. Well, thinking about it's not good enough. The huge guy could've massacred the other without a second thought, and he nearly did.

She even had a cell phone, but she didn't bother to call the police, or anyone, for that matter. I think she should've. She said, "Well, I knew someone else probably would."

That's diffusion of responsibility, for you. Brutal. I learned about it in a psych class back in school, and had to study it pretty extensively. I never realized, though, how many times it shows up in life. But, what happens when everyone thinks that someone will call someone? If everyone believes that, then no one will end up calling. And that could lead to a lot of danger, and if an accident had been caused, death.

A guy I went to elementary school with died. He was poor and had no insurance. He had cancer. His family had to take up a collection for his cremation. He was gentle and soft-spoken and kind. I work for a doctor who gripes about his BMW acting up and the taxes on his beach house. My view has dampened this holiday season.
