Anger is a good thing WHEN CONSTRUCTIVELY HANDLED. Most people don't know how to do this.

When handled right, anger can help you move toward forgiveness, motivate you to change, and help you see yourself more clearly.

To handle anger constructively,
1 Own it as yours. If you're angry at someone, it doesn't mean they did something bad. It means they didn't do what you thought they should have. It's up to you to figure out your expectation.

2 Deal with the physical. Anger, like all emotion, is a chemical response to a stimulus. It's your responsibility to get your body's chemical balance back to calmness. Exercise, especially upper body like chopping wood or using a punching bag, is great. Massage, meditation, sleep, etc - it's up to you to handle the anger in your body.

3 After you've dealt with the chemical response, and examined your expectations, you can then begin negotiations with the other person. Many books about how to do this are available, or communications skills classes are helpful too.

As you can see, anger properly handled can lead to self-awareness, more healthy interactions, and better physical health (than if you stored it).

Best of luck.

Yes! You definetly have to get angry sometimes, If not all the anger is going to build up inside and drive you crazy!!! Also it depends on how you express your anger. Some ways will not be good. But, you know what are good ways and bad ways to express your anger!! As long as you let your anger out in a healthy way then it is okay to let it out in moderation.

Yes, I believe anger is a good thing in moderation because you certainly don't want to hold it in.

Captain - why is this question in the "Beer, Wine & Spirits" section? In any event, it is not a "good" thing, but it is a natural emotion - just like jealousy, hate and greed. It's a good thing to know how to express constructively, if that is possible.

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.

absolutely, you need somewhere to move all that stress to and a vehicle to get it there. the anger transports it out of your system. but while people are the easiest targets, don't take it out on them because then the stress passes on to them and before you know it, it's like the flu.

Anger can be a very good thing. It helps to motivate and energize. It all depends on what you do with it and how you express it.

Yes if you don't i can all be released in one shot and it can become dangerous, i use to be like this where i wouldnt get angry and then if something really made me to the point where i couldnt hold it i would break stuff, instead of just yelling or something.

Yes, it is an emotion. Holding it in can cause untold amounts of damage both mentally and physically.
