was she still there when you woke up and found the panties? maybe it's just a playful kind of thing that she did to tell you that she did enjoy it and so on. I think she just wants u to know that she likes you and enjoys ur company?!?! (darn i sound like a grandma...)

Women tend to mark territory in ways to drive other women off or let them know they've been there. If the intention was to get your wife to know she was there, that's marking territory. If there is no wife, she was leaving a message that she's like to do that again. Sort of "Hi there!!"
