If you had no taxable income, you shouldn't have to file.

That depends. If your income for the year exceeds the filing requirement for your filing status then you must file. For example if you are a Single taxpayer and not the dependent of another taxpayer you must file if your income from wages is over $8,750. If you have self-employment income in excess of $400 for the year, you must file. If you have been collecting unemployment compensation, keep in mind that that is taxable so you must add it to your other income to see if you have hit the filing requirement amount.

If you had any tax withheld from your pay or unemployment benefits you'll need to file even if the total is less than the filing requirement amount in order to receive a refund of the income taxes withheld.

Probably. You may qualify for Earned Income Tax Credit. If you have received unemployment benefits, they may be taxable.

Check with the Internal Revenue Service or review the forms after the first of the year.

Also check with your state, if it has an income tax.

Yes, you pay taxes for any income over a certain level. The level changes for being single, married, head of house hold, or over 65. Income can include any benefits you received, interest, cashing a 401k, money won, or money given to you.

if you had above a certain amount of INCOME (which varies according to your situation), you need to file. If you had any money withheld, you MUST file to get a refund. There are many services like H&R Block that can help you for a small fee.

If you didn't make above a certain dollar amount for the year, then you are not required to file taxes.

You should be able to find the minimum amount on tax forms, or on the IRS website.

A few years ago, it was 6,850 dollars.
